White/Upper-Middle Class, Public School in Mi. Jewish.
GPA(UW/W): 3.62/3.84
ACT: 34 (36E,33M,33R,34S)
Class Rank: 57/321
Course Rigor: Rigorous, senior schedule is very rigorous; 5/6 of my classes are AP or Honors courses
EC’s: Good, although not super broad. I volunteer 4 hours weekly tutoring at my synagogue, president of synagogue teen group, Captain of JV Tennis, have a job, NHS, SNHS, Tri-M, Orchestra Manager for my school’s orchestra, Philosophy Club, Ethics Bowl
LOR’s: Good, including one from a professor at a local university
Other: Huge upward trend in GPA (3.6 soph to 4.3 junior year), my essay is good, too (at least I think it is :P). Legacy.
Thanks!
Looks very good to me, @UofMorMSU
@fallenchemist I saw people in another thread talking about applying to the DHS and PTA and I was wondering if I have a shot at either of them or if my stats are too low? Should I even bother? Thanks
@UofMorMSU
Your GPA, which translates into a class rank of between top 18%, probably would hold you back. ACT is certainly strong enough, as is class rigor. EC’s look good too. It would be a long shot, but if you have the energy and time, then better to have tried and failed than wonder what if. Given the low odds, I think it completely comes down to how you feel you need to balance your time. Add into that equation the high likelihood Tulane will give you some automatic merit after accepting you. How much is very hard to say, but I would guess maybe $20,000-25,000?
@fallenchemist Okay great, thanks! Last question. I heard from a friend that Tulane will start releasing decisions as early as Friday, do you know if that’s true or not? Thanks again.
@UofMorMSU
I do not know that for a fact, but it would certainly be consistent with how they have done things for the past 10 years at least. OTOH, the Director of Admissions and the VP of Enrollment Management are both new this year, so one never knows if they have different ideas on how to handle things. But my guess would be decisions will start rolling out soon.
AND BEFORE ANYONE STARTS COMPLAINING, THERE IS NO RHYME OR SEEMING REASON AS TO THE ORDER THEY COME OUT. Certainly how early your file was complete helps, but there are many, many factors. So despite the completely understandable anxiety, just be patient! Whining on here just won’t do any good at all, unless someone wants to start a “whining only” thread. That would be allowed, if it helps people vent. But otherwise it is useless to clog up a regular discussion thread with asking questions that cannot be answered and/or complaining.
None of the latter was directed at you UofMorMSU, I just chose this response to make a point since it happens every year.
@fallenchemist None taken, thanks for being super helpful!
Can you make/sticky a whining thread? I think it’d help people vent.
Sure, you create it and I will sticky it until the end of admissions season.
