Chance Me ED

So I think I’ve finally decided that Emory is my first choice and I will be applying there ED so if you guys could chance me that’d be great! I’m a white female living in Georgia about 40 minutes south of Atl. My dad works at the CDC so I don’t know if that might help?

GPA (Unweighted): 3.96

** I’m counting my grades from freshman year in this GPA but I heard Emory doesn’t look at them, which in that case my GPA would be slightly higher as I made my only B freshman year. **

Essays: I’m a pretty good writer so I think they should be strong

Recs: I have a few teachers that I’m just about as close with as you can get without it being weird so they should be strong! I’m going to try to get to know my counselor better, it’s hard because our schools has 2500+ students.

Oh and intended major is International Studies with a minor in Development Studies. I also plan to continue lessons iin piano and oboe at the school. Thank you so much for any insights!!

Get your ACT to about 30-31 and you should be fine. Also, I think history and social sciences are more aligned with your interests so stick to the history SATII, it signals, you are serious about such fields.

Okay, thank you so much for the advice! And I also had one other question, does Emory only take a certain number of people from a specific high school or is that not taken into account?

I’m sure they want diversity geographically, but qualified is qualified. For example, many good Atlanta area schools are more than well-represented in incoming classes such as Woodward Academy, Gwinnett Math and Science, Chamblee Tucker, Northside, etc. They probably don’t do it by school because they do it based upon academic interests and EC’s after you meet the admissions threshold. They either like you or they don’t. They wouldn’t go: “oh darn, that’s the 8th student from Woodward Academy that seems like a fit, we’ll have to waitlist them”. In addition, I’m willing to bet most people from a particular school will not be applying to the same non-super duper elite early decision. Most with high scores will apply to the super elites (or the school popular with that school. For example, those at Pace Academy love Vandy) first and then try places like Emory

Also, unless your dad has an Emory affiliation, it isn’t going to help.
