Hardship:
My parents got divorced when i was 8 years old, and ever since then I have had to change schools and states every 6 months. So i have moved around A LOT during highschool and it was fine freshman year, but sophomore year it was not. For the first semester of sophomore year i went to a block schedule school, and the second semester i went to a 6 period school. Since i moved halfway through the year, i was forced to take only semester non - academic classes

Here are my schedules:

Freshman:
1. World history
2. Spanish 1
3. English 9
4. Double honors alg2/trig
5. PE
6. Physical science

1st semester soph (block schedule)-
Pre ap english
Writing/art
Honors geometry
Spanish 2

Second semester soph-

Personal finance
Food and nutrition
Business management
Team sports
Basketball

Junior year:
1. Pre Calculus
2. AP language
3. AP statistics
4. AP US History
5. Spanish 3
6. Physics
7. Computer Science

(AP biology and AP chemistry over summer)

Senior year:
1. AP Calc AB
2. AP literature
3. AP government and politics
4. AP macroeconomics
5. AP world history
6. AP modern european history
7. Advanced programming 1 and 2

QUESTIONS:

Will my weak second semester classes during my sophomore year look bad on college applications even though i couldn't help it?

What are my chances of getting accepted to these schools

Any advice on how to improve my application?

Regarding course rigor/classes, your guidance counselor should hopefully mention your unique situation. You couldn’t help it, so it shouldn’t hurt you. Test scores and GPA look fine for the mentioned schools and URM status helps.

HOWEVER, please narrow down your list of schools. Your explanation of “I figured i’ll apply to a lot of good schools so it’s more likely that i’ll get into at least one.” is unacceptable. Have you looked at the individual programs at each school? What draws you into each school? Have you taken a look at the ridiculous number of supplements you will be writing for college apps to each of these schools? There is no way that you will be able to manage 6 AP classes while writing at least 50 supplemental essays to these 22 colleges. Also, have you looked into financial aid at all these schools? Your list of colleges literally looks like you copied and pasted a list of the top 22 colleges in the country off of US News or something.

Lol sorry if I came off as ranty…it’s just that your list of colleges frustrates me a bit. Nevertheless, good luck! :)

Lols 22 schools. You realize that many of them require you to write unique supplements right?

Nice stats, but your EC’s are reallllyyyyy boring.

Great stats and pretty good extracurriculars. Try getting more leadership positions. HYPS, Yale, MIT, Brown, Columbia are still reaches as they are for everyone. Apply only to the ones you actually want to go to, not because they’re Ivys. JHU, UCLA, and UC Berkeley are matches.

Bump

@austin23 wat are you majoring in… not very impressive, only EC i like is the programmer one.

@austin23 Oh my bad didnt see the CS, are half of those schools even good at CS? Brown and Columbia, really?

I think you might wanna narrow down your list of schools because applying to college can get expensive really fast! Good luck and chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1673832-will-chance-back-chance-me-for-cmc-barnard-bryn-mawr-columbia-stanford-cornell-umich-stern.html#latest</a></p>

I know the essays are a lot of work. I don’t mind it. I’ve seen a lot seniors after getting admission results regretting not applying to more colleges, and i’m not gonna make their mistake.

Some of these schools aren’t the best at CS, as manas1997 stated. You should stick with MIT, Caltech, UC Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon, Georgie institute of technology, and maybe Stanford for that major. EA at MIT is better. Please chance me back: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1672761-chance-me-for-stanford-university.html</a></p>

@austin23 - There’s a difference between more colleges and going overboard. You need to narrow down your list and know what you like within each school. A typical list consists of perhaps 5-10 schools. Since you want more, maybe go with ~12 schools i.e cut your list in half. Make sure that within these 12 schools you include safeties, matches and reaches. As another CCer mentioned, come up with your reaches and then ignore them. Assume they didn’t exist and craft a college list of safeties and matches. Make sure that you will be happy at those colleges.

Anyways, good luck with college apps! :)
