Chance Me for ALL UC's (I'm overly optimistic)

I've been looking at CSU's, but my family is asking me to raise my standards and go for a UC. Would I still have that chance?

Asian/Pacific Islander, Female, want to major in Chemistry/Biochemistry

• SAT: 1670 ----------- Reading 590 Writing 530 Math 550
• 2nd SAT: 1810 ------- Reading 640 Writing 590 Math 580 (will retake in Oct., possible bump to 1900? But then that still wouldn't be enough haha)
• SAT II: US History 700
• ACT: 26

• Unweighted GPA: 3.92 b**
• Weighted GPA: 4.00 b**

I don't know my current total GPA, but I know it went up a little because of my junior year.

Junior year: Straight As with 2 AP and 2 Honor academic classes + Art Class + Student Council Leadership Class b**

• AP: World History (3), Language Arts(3), US History(4)
• Percentile: Not sure the exact number, but definitely above top 9 percent.
• Extracurriculars: 2 JV Sports(1 year each), Student Council (3 years, 4 this upcoming senior year), Some clubs (no leadership)
• Honors: National Honor Society, California Scholarship Federation,
• Job/Volunteer Experience: None

As you can see, I my app would be very unappealing...I know my extremely low SAT and nonexistent ECs are going to bring me down, but I was wondering if I would still have a chance at some of the schools?

EDIT: Just as a side note before everyone mentions the cost of going to a UC, money is not an issue for me.

Again, I know some of them are EXTREME long shots. But I'd like to know how far of reaches they are. Thanks!

Berkeley:
Davis:
Irvine:
Los Angeles:
Merced:
Riverside:
San Diego:
Santa Barbara:
Santa Cruz:

I think you have a good chance for the CSU schools, but your chances at most of the UC schools are pretty slim, mainly due to your low test scores. I would consider applying to UC Merced, UC Santa Cruz, and UC Davis. Everything else looks far out of reach.

Berkeley (denied)
Davis (50/50)
Irvine (admitted)
LA (denied)
Merced (admitted)
Riverside (admitted)
San Diego (denied)
Santa Barbara (denied)
Santa Cruz (admitted)

but yeah thats my take
can you help me out with my question about which company churns out the best test preparation books?

Would I still be able to get into the lower tier UCs without any ECs?

Well since the lower tier of UC’s mostly rely on numbers while deciding who to admit I think you’ve got a chance at them.

I think you have a good chance at SC, Merced, and Riverside. I don’t think you should bother with Berkeley, LA, or SD unless you really love the school bc you have a very slim chance and it isn’t worth the money to apply.

I’ve been looking at UC Davis. It’s a lot different than what I was looking for in a college. j6ma9l said I might have a 50/50 chance of getting accepted. What do you guys think? Should I try to apply?

I think you should at least try for davis especially If you get your SAT to 1900-2000 on your retake.

Would you call it a medium reach for me?

Yea, probably a medium reach. But are you planning on taking a second SAT II subject test? I think the UC’s require two of them.

Not even any community service, or internships? Your chances at a UC are not so great.

@Shrivats88-No UC schools require SAT subject tests. A few do recommend them for certain majors though. [University of California - SAT Subject Tests](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/freshman/requirements/examination-requirement/SAT-subject-tests/index.html)

You may have some chance with Merced and Riverside, slim chance with Santa Cruz, and no chance with the rest.

I believe its recommended to take sub tests for math ii and chemistry.

Other opinions?

You really need to calculate your UCGPA.

It is more important than SAT’s. Subject tests are considered but not required.

Here is aUCLA’s freshman profile.

Less detail, but you can navigate to others from here.

Google UC freshman admission profile .pdf, i.e. Davis, for more detail, 2010 and earlier.

I have a 4.4 weighted GPA according to that calculator. I had no idea ucs don’t look at your freshmen year!

Wow, that’s great! I think that is the highest “capped” UCGPA you can get! That should take you far at several UC’s, where your SAT score will not be a problem. You might want to try a few more subject tests if any might show your strengths.

This was UCD, albeit in 2010
