He has got a better chance on getting in ,I think.

Can you chance the two separately for each college please?
Also, the first has some good research while the second doesn’t have any.

And thank you for your view @davincispj4 :)

You are welcome.
I am unable to message u .
Try to delete some private messages.Only then I will be able to send some.

I deleted a few!! I think you will also have to do the same!! Try that… :)

Can anyone please help me by chancing the two cases??

Please help me for this… I really need your help, you all have been exceedingly helpful but please help me on this one too…

@CalTechJPL, unless it’s the real Olympiad, it isn’t all that great. Do any of the two kids have any solid research? Published or not? And most importantly, which subject (Phy, Math etc) and is it experiment-based?

The all rounded child has solid research in physics but it is not experiment based Whereas, the other has an app company (sort of)… Thank you journeyinwards but do tell me more I love your advice.

Both kids are rather amazing. An app company shows what I would call a ‘modern’ tech-entrepreneur feel and would appeal a lot to schools and most to schools like Stanford and maybe even Penn. But ofcourse the apps should be properly functional and ridden of bugs and all. What is the best app made by this company? Revenue? If it’s something innovative, it can really stand out, especially while applying for CS courses.
Now, with the research: is it independent? Is the student the primary author? If the research is indeed groundbreaking and theoretically sound all the same, it can help a lot. Especially for students applying for the pure sciences at places like Caltech. Research shows a research-oriented thinking spirit which can appeal quite a lot to research-based schools.

Now, as for the comparison: I feel that both the students stand out in rather different ways as mentioned above: one with a tech-entreprenuer feel and one showing aptitude in research. It all depends on how good each of the things is. It should ‘wow’ the adcom. Anyway, as long as both kids have stats similar to what you’ve mentioned + something of this sort, they’re going to great places.

Btw, at RK Puram, are the kids research oriented?

Well, the children in AEROSS are Research oriented and some in Exun too but mostly our school follows CBSE guidelines which promotes rote learning.
Also, can you please chance these 2 for MIT, CalTech, UC Berkeley, Stanford, Harvard, UMich Ann Arbor, Cornell and GeorgiaTech…

Again, both the students are brilliant in their own way!
I’m assuming research = a proper publishable research paper with mathematical/experimental treatment of theory, with new results/theorems. Please correct me if I’m wrong cause people produce various qualities of work.

I’m assuming App= Really cool IOS/Android App with min 500+ downloads.

Common to both students:
Georgia Tech, U Mich: Safety
UC Berkeley, Cornell: Match

Now:
MIT: High Reach (No Medal, American citizen has a much higher chance!)
CalTech: Reach (If the research is proper the student with research has an upper hand)
Harvard: Reach (the one with the better essay has an upper hand; an instrument can help IMO)
Stanford: Reach (Equal footing for both, but If the App is amazing, App designer has an upper hand as with the research)

But remember, if the research is groundbreaking, the scales tilt in favour of the research student for all colleges simply because it’s slightly more unique, IMO.

Bottom-line: both of you would get in at most places. The Indian has very few chances at MIT, American stands a better chance. Why are you even comparing? :P

Thank you soooooooooooo much journeyinwards
Also, what is IMO?

IMO is short for ‘In My Opinion.’

Okay, Thank You :$

More views please!!
Will chance back for sure…
:)

136 posts isn’t enough responses for you?

It is just better if one gets more views as there is a better view because people can differ in opinions.

I get that. But isn’t this overkill?

I agree, you have awesome scores and extracurriculars. You have a good amount of leadership. You should be a match for all ivy leagues. You might even be a match for Stanford. I’d say low reach/match for Stanford. I know cal tech and MIT only care about academics and you got them. Make sure your essays are good and I think you’ll be happy come December or April/march.
