Great Essays

Intended majors: English and Film.

Hooks: Triple legacy for Columbia
I applied EA to Chapel Hill.
I plan to retake the subject tests in January.
I might retake the ACT.(see if I can bring up that darn Science score)

Also, a little side question...Will schools weight my English and Reading scores more than Science and Math, because I intend to major in English?

I’ll chance you for Columbia since that’s the one I know the most about.

ACT and GPA are okay (not stellar, but, will not hurt you).

30 and 25 in Math and Science might hurt you, but, if you show your interest in writing enough that won’t be a problem.

Despite having legacy, I would say that Columbia is a mid-high reach for you, especially because you don’t really have any writing related extracurriculars that show your interest in writing. But, don’t hesitate to apply, you still have a pretty okay chance.

Sorry if that seemed harsh, I’m just offering my opinion. If your essays are incredible though, that could make up for the lack of writing related ECs.

Even though you have legacy at Columbia there are many stronger candidates who have just as much legacy as you with higher scores, better ECs and higher GPAs. You probably wont get into Columbia. As for the rest, they are all more likely than Columbia but all are still reaches. I would put some more safeties on the list if I were you
