Chance me for Cornell/Upenn/etc. I'll Chance back!

I'm a junior and I've already had a chance thread but this one has some new info.

Schools I am looking at (if I don't specify what college in the university, I am leaning towards CAS with a major in economics):
Cornell (first choice) (Applying ED)
Upenn (second choice)
Northwestern (third)
UChicago
UMichigan (Ross... eventually)
NYU (stern)
Boston College (carroll)
Carnegie Mellon (tepper)
I didn't include safety/back up schools on this list
*The reason I will not apply to the business schools in some of these universities is that I feel like they have great CAS programs that would allow me to further explore my interests. I am not 100% sure that business is my forte. For the other schools, I do not wish to go their CAS schools)

Letters of recommedation
1. Calc teacher (hopefully good but nothing spectacular)
2. History teacher (he really likes me so this one should be pretty damn good)
3. Guidance counselor (I've been sucking up to him for a while lol =))

GPA: 3.80 (School doesn't weigh)

My high school is really selective and nationally ranked (meaning hard classes) (you probably know the school if you live in the NY region)

Average GPA of people who get into cornell from my school is what I have

Average SAT of people who get into cornell from my school is about what I have

Junior Year - AP Calc BC, AP Physics B, IB World Literature

Senior Year - AP Psych, AP Multi Calc, AP econ, AP Chemistry

All other classes are honors (unless they are like gym or health etc.)

Test Scores:
Math SAT IIC - 790
Chemistry SAT II - 780
SAT I (superscore):
CR - 700
Math - 750
Writing - 750 (10 on essay)
total - 2200/2400 ; 1450/1600

Extracurricular (position; grades; hrs; awards):
Alzheimer's Club - (treasurer; 10,11,12)
Online tutoring - (11,12; 3hrs/per day for about 300hrs)
Investors Club - (founder; 11,12)
National Honors Society - (11,12)
Future Business Leaders of America - (11,12; won 5th a a regional competition twice)
Cancer club - (11,12; treasurer)
Italian Culture Club - (founder; 11,12)
Save the Environment Club - (secretary; 11,12; i put some hours into it but not too impressive)
Debate Team - (10,11,12; four regional awards)
School Newspaper - (11,12; writer)
World Life Fund - (10,11,12; communicator)

projects/research
1. I did a historical research project with my hist teacher. He said he will write a letter to colleges explaining how I have contributed

summer:
1. prefrosh --> Camp counselor
2. freshmen --> Camp counselor
3. sophomore --> Camp counselor
4 junior --> Cornell summer college (3 week program)
4b. junior --> Camp counselor
*Camp counselor = volunteer job and I believe I have accumulated about 300hrs over the past 4 years

other information:
- my high school doesn't rank students but in the profile they send to colleges, i am probably in the top 45% cluster
- my school sends about 20 people to cornell every year (the whole class is about 350 students)
- since sophomore year I have been taking a ton of business classes to learn about the stock/bond market, investing, entrepreneurship, marketing, advertising, etc.

what I am very worried about:
1. VERY few awards (and none are impressive at all)
2. No real job...ever... except babysitting for my neighbors
3. For the colleges I am applying to for CAS programs, I wonder if the adcoms are going to look down on the fact that I am interested in business but am not applying to the business schools. As mentioned, I am doing this for variety. At Cornell for example, I would love the opportunity to get a great liberal arts education while taking business classes in any of the 6 other colleges within the university.
4. My ECs are mainly during 11th and 12th grades
5. Even though (although it may be hard to believe) my GPA/SATs/other # stats are average for Cornell acceptances in my school, I feel like other applicants in my school are more sure of exactly what they want to do (this applies to other schools I am applying to)... although again I hope it is evident that I am expressing an interest in business.

So what are my chances?

Thanks a lot! Post a link so I can chance back.

you have a great shot at every school you listed. Cornell isn’t as hard to get into compared to other ivies. I’d say your chances of acceptance at Cornell are pretty high. Good luck!

You have a good chance at Cornell and you have a good shot at all the other schools youre applying to! Youre probably gonna get into NYU and BC no doubt.

btw I went Cornell Summer College too, did you do first or second session?

I put it under summer between junior and senior year because I am (hopefully) going to do it this upcoming summer. I heard they are not selective so I do not think it will too much of a problem for me to get in. I am finishing up my app in the next few weeks. I will be doing the first session.

Btw, this probably makes absolutely no difference but I got a national merit commendation too.

Also… AP Multi is a mistake… it’s not an AP class

Yeah do it. Cornell Summer was so much fun and I met sooo many new people who I still talk to. I did first session too. I heard hotel Management was semi selective but I doubt it really is. I did Psychology which was good (got a lot of free time).

and put national merit on the common app because theres a place where it says that

I have to say, wish I had EC’S like those under my belt, you could probably easily get into Cornell under ED, not so sure about UPenn, and everywhere else seems like a safe bet
chance back !

BTW, what high school do you go to, Stuy?

I was accepted to BC CSOM with similar stats and somewhat comparable ecs. I think youre a match for BC, NYU, U of M, and CMU. Low reach for northwestern and u Chicago. Cornell is a low to mid reach and upenn is a mid reach
chance back if you don’t mind!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/857370-accepted-bc-what-about-rest.html</a></p>

Thanks guys

@drdeep… eh don’t wanna disclose that info =P

I think you’re in everywhere except for Cornell, UPenn, and NYU Stern where you have a decent shot. You’re SATs are very good, your GPA is good considering the difficulty of your school, and although you have solid ECs, they won’t stand out from what I am reading. If your school sends 20 kids to Cornell a year, then I would say you have a better shot, but right now you’re borderline. I’d say you’d get admission to at least 1 of the 3 (Cornell, NYU Stern, and UPenn, respectively)

thanks golfer

Cornell - reach
Upenn - reach
Northwestern - reach
UChicago - reach
UMichigan - match
NYU - match
Boston College - match
Carnegie Mellon - match

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/859398-3-cs-1-f-senior-year-now-what.html</a></p>

I would say cornell and penn are matches, only slight reaches, and the nyu stern may be a tiny reach. But good luck and thanks for chancing me

VERY good SAT scores!

Cornell - match
Upenn - reach
Northwestern - reach
UChicago - match
UMichigan - match
NYU - match
Boston College - reach/match…not sure.
Carnegie Mellon - match

Since you’re a junior, you will have plenty of time to think about college, so many chances to improve on whatever you’re lacking. Whether or not you will get into any of the colleges is based on your belief and how hard you’re willing to work! Good luck!

It’s weird you think that UChicago and Cornell are matches while northwestern is a reach lol.

thanks for the input

pretty good shots at em all :)

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/845309-chance-me-por-favor-urm-d.html</a></p>

Cornell - High Match/Low Reach
Penn - Low Reach
Northwestern - High Match
Chicago - Low Reach
Michigan - Match
NYU - Match
Boston College - Match
Carnegie Mellon - Match

I think you have a really good chance! Your numbers are check, your ECs too!
Might even be a good idea that you haven’t applied to their respective business schools, because your ECs aren’t necessarily to business focused.

I think your only problem might be coming from an apparently really competitive school. top 45 percent isnt that good. Your rank isnt listed right?

Good luck! I would expect good news!

sorry i responded so late but thanks for the chance.

Cornell - low reach
Upenn - reach
Northwestern - low reach
UChicago - low reach
UMichigan - match, if you in state but if you oos reach
