ECs: president of a cappella club, manager for xc and indoor track, 2 volunteer clubs, Friends of Rachel club, bunch of community service hours, part-time job

applied after the "due date" (they kinda have EA and RD for DAAP) applied december 5 and will probably hear back mid january. any idea?

I got in with what I have to assume was a relatively low unweighted GPA (My school has a weird GPA system, so I’m not sure how they recalculated it), and I figured that since this school does’t take into account course or school difficulty… I wouldn’t get in… but I did…

My SAT score was a little higher than yours and I had a few interesting ECs (nothing crazy, but ones that show an interest in design).

You should make sure they are even going to consider you. I submitted my app on November 14th, and the deadline was November 15th… you were very late…

i did forget to mention though that i was selected w/ 150 other kids (through nomination and then interview process) from MA to make installation art at one of my state’s biggest museums. i did put that in my resume though!

and yeah i know it’s late but the website said they accept apps until january 1st for DAAP but i’ll be considered AFTER all who applied before nov 15th. i assumed that this set up was kind of like having EA and RD for their program without actually saying it. so i figured with my stats (obviously the school’s a reach), it’d be less competitive within the “late apps” pool.

i also chose a second choice major (urban planning), and plan to send a teacher’s letter of rec and a personal letter of interest.

Honestly, from those that I met, I would guess that you have less than 50% chance of getting accepted to Architecture. This would definitely be a reach school for you. However, you should definitely apply.

As for Urban Planning, I would think that your chances would be much higher since they aren’t as tough for admission.

Bottom line: my guess would be
Architecture: Rejection
Urban Planning: Acceptance

yeah i have the same expectations and thanks for the honesty haha. and i figured that even if urban planning turned out not to be my thing, they’re both in the same college so it wouldn’t be TOO hard to transfer (and i’ll have a semester or full year to raise my GPA)

Although they are in the same school, don’t think that transferring is very easy. Each area is quite independent of each other. If you can get into an architecture program somewhere else because you got rejected from Cincinnati, go there. You might actually be better off going to a junior college in order to get your GPA way up. You want to shoot for a 3.7 overall GPA.

okay good to know. uc isn’t an “i’ll die if i don’t get in” school, i’m happy with any and all of the schools i’ve applied to, so if i don’t get in, it’s not the end of the world. i can just go somewhere else :)
