Hi everyone!
I’m a junior with a 4.53 WGPA and a 3.98 UWGPA at a relatively competitive high school in Florida–I’m 7/450 ish.
This year I’m enrolled in:
AP Calculus AB
AP Spanish Language and Culture
AP Chem (double block)
AP English Language and Composition
AP Seminar
AP US History
Next year I plan on taking:
AP Calculus BC
AP Spanish Literature and Culture
AP Bio
AP English Literature
AP Research
AP Government
AP Macroeconomics (online, FLVS)
Teacher’s Assistant
EC’s:
Secretary of NHS
President of Interact (Rotary service club)
Vice President of Spanish NHS
Running for secretary of Science NHS
Member of Chem Club, Mu Alpha Theta and Prom Committee
I won a Student of the Month Award from our local Rotary club, nominated by my Calc teacher.
I have volunteered over 100 hours at a local Veteran’s hospital (and plan on adding 100 more this summer). I have also volunteered roughly 40 hours and counting at a soup kitchen and 25 hours at my old middle school. I also volunteer through all of my honor societies.
Test scores:
1470 on most recent SAT
5 on APES exam
4 on AP Human Geography and AP World History exams
Plan on taking the ACT and SAT Subject tests. Also will retake the SAT or ACT again, whichever I do better on.
Can you please chance me for the University of Florida, FSU, Emory, Johns Hopkins, and University of Miami?
Thank you!
low for JHU, EC are super generic.
Any other input than the super generic response above?
Your courseload is super rigorous! Wow! I am only a parent, but I wonder–what is your special interest? How do you explore your special interest? How would you tell the story of yourself? What makes you “you”? Good luck! Academically you are a star!!! I am sure you’ll get into some great schools.
UF-Gainesville should be a match/almost safety. FSU is a match. Low match for UM because its ranking has gone up in the last few years.
Emory is a low reach-I can see you getting in with that SAT score. Are you applying to Emory only or Oxford College and Emory? Chances might be better for Emory if you add Oxford to the mix.
Hopkins is a reach. GPA is good but take 1 more of SAT 1/ACT to get around 1500/34.
Remember that Hopkins and Emory require a lot of supplemental essays. Do your best on them.
Your GPA and rank will give you a fighting chance pretty much anywhere, and if you can get your SAT above 1500 that can make literally any school a real possibility.
Anyways:
Florida State - safety
University of Florida - low match/high safety
University of Miami - low match
Emory - low reach: GPA is strongly competitive and SAT scores are around the median. You’ll stand a good chance of admission even if you don’t bring up your SAT, but a better chance if you do.
Johns Hopkins - reach: This school is a reach for anyone, but its not impossible for you, especially if you raise your SAT score.
