My Stats:
GPA:
3.1 UW--- 3.4 W
Frosh: (C in honors bio and geometry)
Soph: (C in spanish 2 and PST)
JUNIOR YEAR: 3.7 UW--- 4.0+ W (3.8 with GaTech weighting)
I took 6 honors and 1 AP (Chem) from freshman to junior year.
I will be taking an additional 3 AP's (Pol & Gov, Environmental, Lit) and 2 honors classes (Calc & Physics) senior year.

I had a rough start freshman and sophomore year with a 2.9 UW and a 3.2 W. I improved significantly junior year, though I am afraid it is too little too late. I also am worried because in those 2 years some of my bad grades were in math and science classes. They were honors classes, but I just was not on top of my game.

- Music - 6 years - I play guitar and bass
- Athletics - 3 years - Soccer, winter and spring track

- Getting a job this summer

Awards:

I honestly believe you going be fine if possible try to increase you SAT scores, and spent time on the essays…You have pretty good chance of acceptance :)

My opinion is mainly based on personal experience and from information though the internet(relevant forums).

I hate to be debbie downer, but with a 3.1 GPA, make sure you apply to a bunch of other schools. The average admitted student this year was just over 3.9 and it’s rare to see people under 3.5 get in.

CFB - I am definitely applying to other schools with GIT being my top choice. I am just hoping they look at my junior year and realize I am not the same student as I was in 10th and 11th grade. I am not expecting much, but it is nice to know where I stand.

I feel for you. The problem I think you’ll run into is that according to Tech, the admissions process is formula driven (like it is for so many large state schools). So rather than taking a holistic approach to your GPA, the 3.1 is going to get fed into the equation.

Put in an application, hope for the best, and let it be a pleasant surprise if you get in.

mmm i think with a 2100-2200+ it raises ur chances immensely however the 3.1uw gpa is still hurting u. if u have some kind of story that explains why u didn’t do well ur frosh and soph year it might help. it really doesn’t hurt to apply. i didn’t have that great stats myself and i got in. good luck!

@arandum - can I ask what your stats were? Also, I don’t have a story about why my grades were so low, but I could write one of the essays about how I straightened myself out as a student or how I underestimated the classes I was taking, though those are very unoriginal. Thanks
