Chance me for engineering?

In State
Race: Asian
Major: Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical)
GPA: UW - 3.8; W - 4.5
SAT: 1980 (690 M, 680 W, 610 R)
SAT IIs: Math 2 - 730, US History - 670
Rank: 21/846 (One of most competitive high schools in Southern California). I am part of ELC, so I am basically guaranteed to all UC's except Berkeley and LA.

APs: 14 of the hardest AP classes my school has to offer (Euro, Chem, US, Physics, Art History, Calculus, Lang/Comp, Macro/Micro Econ, US/Comp Gov, French, Stats, Literature, Biology)

Normal amount of ECs and Community Service

Everything is good except your SAT score. Aim for a 2200.

You’ll most likely be rejected. You don’t have the stats for Engineering. You’d need to significantly raise your SAT and SAT II math scores.

I got in with a 1980 SAT, 5 APs, 720 SAT Math I, 690 SAT Math II.

I got in (mechanical engineering) with:
1920 SAT
UW: 3.84, UC GPA: 4.27
SAT2s: 800s math, chem, physics
ELC status
9 APs classes, took 10 AP tests.

@TheRage and @blabla…

Well you guys do make me a little more confident lol

Hopefully I get in. Hopefully more people on CC who went to UCLA will post

2380 SAT
UW: 3.99, UC GPA: 4.73
SAT2s: 800 math II, 800 bio M, 740 US history
ELC
16 APs classes, took 13 AP tests

Chemical Engineering

Got in as MechE
1980 SAT
SAT II: 800 Math II, 740 Chem
9 APs
Don’t remember GPA but I got 5 Bs and the rest were As during my sophomore and junior year.
5 clubs, no leadership
Soccer freshman to junior year.

Why is everyone with subpar stats posting? What’s are you guys trying to prove? We all know it’s possible to get into UCLA Engineering with a low SAT score but the fact stands that the mean SAT score of an admitted UCLA student is 2030 and even higher for HSSEAS.

We’re posting counterexamples to the following statement:

"You’ll most likely be rejected. You don’t have the stats for Engineering. You’d need to significantly raise your SAT and SAT II math scores. "

Math is quite important for success in the engineering program, and your scores are on the low side. 80% of the admits in 2009 had a math score of 700 or better. 50% of the admitted applicants had 750 or better in math. So while about 1 in 5 kids got in with scores in your range, clearly the stats show the chances are tilted against you.

I agree with mikemac, the odds are stacked against you but your chances also improve with good EC’s and well-written essays. Check out the link below:

SAT 1: Math-670; CR-650; W-650
SAT 11 Math 2- 680
AP Calc- 5

UC GPA:4.02

Any chances for ME at UCLA?
