I am a committed incoming freshman at USC, and since I will be working every other weekend in San Diego, I will need a car to commute. I am planning on moving on from my old 1999 gas-guzzler and going with an electric/plug-in option, likely a Chevy Volt/Bolt (or even a Tesla model 3 if I can convince my parents). I plan to enter the parking lottery on May 1st but am unsure how easy it would be to get an electric car space. It would be nice to know what my chances are of getting an electric space so I can decide to buy a car before May 1st. If my chances aren’t likely, I will probably go with a non-plugin hybrid. Does anyone know my likelihood of getting such a space as a freshman? Thanks
Call transportation office at USC an ask, this is way too random from cc.
There aren’t that many EV spaces. From the 9/12/2016 Daily Trojan:
"At the moment, there are 22 electric vehicle charging spaces at the UPC, two of which are level III charging stations. The level II spaces are located at the Figueroa Street structure, Grand Avenue structure, Royal Street structure, Downey Way structure, Lot 2 and Lot SSRI.
“One way to grow the program is to build new construction,” Donovan said. “Those are the big projects coming online next year.”
USC Transportation will be adding 56 level II charging stations at UPC by the end of Spring 2017. Twenty-four of these stations will be constructed at the University Village, and the remaining 32 stations will be at the USC Shrine building. In total, there will be 114 electric vehicle charging spaces available across both the campuses for those with a USC permit."
Side note: If you haven’t placed a deposit, its going to be along time before you can get a Model 3.
