Chance me for getting off the waitlist?

Hi

I applied early October to CSOM and CLA (second choice) and I got put on the waitlist.
GPA: 88/91 UW/W GPA from a rigorous Catholic HS
ACT: 30
Senior Courseload: AP Gov, AP Stats, AP Micro/Macro, AP Music Theory
Pretty decent EC’s, including starting a club
Strong essays
Good counselor rec
IL resident
Asian American

Do I still a chance at UMN?
Thanks!

I think you definitely have a shot as getting in to UMN; your ACT score about 50th percentile for CSOM and 75th percentile for CLA. Your GPA also looks pretty solid. Goodiuck

I am also on the waitlist, too. These are my stats:
1st choice CSE, 2nd choice CLA
ACT: 33 (35 Math)
GPA: 3.6 UW, 3.9 W
SAT subject test: 790 math, 680 Chem
OOS from colorado

Your ACT score and courseload look in line with the averages with CSOM, possibly a bit better because you have 3 AP classes that somewhat closely relate to business. Not sure about GPA; 88 means nothing to me.

I think a lot of it comes down to your ECs and essay. CSOM sees a bunch of kids from the top of their class with great scores so you need something else to stand out. You say decent and strong but CSOM only enrolls less than 600 a year, so it all depends on how they stack up against other applicants. Depending on how many people enroll I think you have a fairly decent chance there.

It seems like you are well ahead of the CLA averages. I only applied to CSOM so I’m not sure how they deal with second choices. Possibly they are waiting to see if CSOM wants you? I can’t really think of any other reason you wouldn’t get accepted into CLA.

@navyblue123 thanks so much, best of luck to you too!

@SkiUMahMN my school claims that its around a 3.7/4. My EC’s are considered strong to a normal person, but to the average CCer, they’re not especially strong. I am pretty well rounded, as well. Thanks!
