Are you in state at Michigan? If so, I think you’re a good candidate. UIUC is a match I think. MIT is a reach for everybody unless you’re an Obama or Elon Musk’s kid. If you’re not from California, can you afford the UCB sticker price? The entire UC system does give aid to OOS students.

Look at Carnegie Mellon, UW-Madison, UVA, Caltech as a HIGH reach, Cornell as a reach…

Also, Michigan State is a decent school for engineering. I got in today with lower stats and scores.

I don’t live in Michigan. Thank you for your help!

@as1799

Should be “The entire UC system does NOT give aid to OOS students”.

What’s your unweighted gpa and class rank? I’m sorry but I don’t think your test scores and gpa are competitive for MIT or Berkeley (especially if you are applying for CS or engineering). UMich and UIUC are also probably reaches as well. I’d add some more match and safety schools if I were you.

@TomSrOfBoston correct. I mistyped

Georgia Tech and Cornell are also good for engineering. They’re hard to get into, but you can try. MIT or Caltech seem like too high a reach.

Be aware that engineering and CS majors may be more selective than the school overall (particularly with popular state flagships). Some schools may admit you to the school but not the major you applied for, and have high GPA requirements or competitive admission to get into the major after enrolling.
