I really like my essays. One really shows passion (for languages) and doing things for myself. The short one about an EC shows how it contributed to who I am.

Recs, I think, are going to be really good. The teachers I got them from love me. I'm aiming for 2 to describe character, and the other one + the guidance rec to show passion). But I waived my right to read them, so it'll be a gamble. :x

Please chance me for:
Georgetown University (College; FLL) EA
Boston College EA
Princeton
Brown
University of Chicago
Johns Hopkins University
Brandeis
SUNY @ Binghamton

Kudasai. Por favor? S'il vous plait? Jebal~

BUMP

Match or safety for all except for Princeton, Brown, and GTown.

Brown and Georgetown are slight reaches and Princeton is a reach. Your application is solid, but you don't have a hook to make it stand out for those three.

I disagree about no hook. What doesn't come out in a listing of grades, scores and ECs is who the person is. That's what recs and essays can show. And that's what distinguishes one person from another. In other words -- we don't really know about the existence of a hook or the lack of a hook.

Regardless -- Sungchul, you are a very accomplished young man who has clearly worked very very hard, and it's paid off. I agree that Princeton is a reach; it's a reach for everyone, even folks with perfect grades and scores. Brown is also a reach, since every Ivy is a reach for every person.

I think the others are likelies.

Remember, of course, that I'm just an ignorant parent who doesn't know much about what these AdComms are really looking for.

But good luck, and let us know.

Another thought: Given your passion for linguistics, have you thought about Middlebury?

And why SUNY Binghamton? I assume it's a safety, and it's also a state school for you, but it isn't in the same class as the others.

Dartmouth has great languages, as do others with which I'm not familiar. Look at the Rugg guide (your GC should have it) to see what's good for languages.

Why are you applying to Princeton? It doesn't even have a linguistics major. Neither does JHU, if I remember correctly.

Very Happy, it's always nice to have a good safety. :D Bing has the reputation as the best SUNY, and no matter how good it is, I feel it'll give an in-state kid like me a full ride if I get in. I figure if that's the only place I get in, I can tank it out there for free and transfer later.

Also, I'm pretty sure Middlebury doesn't have a linguistics major. I wish it did though... With it's reputation for languages, it would've made me drool.

Kyle, I have no clue why I'm applying to Princeton. I thought about it, and I realized the only reason would be because our school sent 2 kids there last year. Does precedent count for nothing? Perhaps f I want to try my luck with HYPSM, I should try Yale.

Also, my brother goes to JHU. I went there for the summer, and I loved it. I liked it so much that I might consider going there as a Romance Language/Literature major (French, Spanish, and some Portuguese :D) and Pre-Med.
