That is a real shame you are such an excellent candidate. I’m also international applying to Brown, U Chicago, Stanford, Colombia and Cornell with a predicted 34 Act, pretty good essays and decent extra curriculars although not quite as good as yours. How am I supposed to get in if you can’t (I have no doubt that you’ll get into some of the other universities of your choice but I am referring of course to U Chicago)?

Well, one reason I guess is I’m Chinese - the pool is hyper-competitive. Where are you from? Did you get into Uchicago EA and your ED? Congrats if you did!

BTW, what are the chances of admission as a deferred candidate at Uchi?

Being an international student does hurt you a little bit. But you do have a great shot at all those schools!

I’m from the UK but I am of Indian ethnicity so I will also face a similar competition. I will be applying in 2015 but I am already averaging a 33 ACT composite in my practice papers (I assume that I can get it up at least 1 point by 2015) and I am also assuming that my essays will be quite good (sorry if that sounded cocky but being optimistic is the only way I can justify applying to the top universities).

No idea sorry :(

Can someone please check out my thread?

I’m not very knowledgeable about the procedures for international students (especially for each university), so my assessment is just a slightly harsher version of what I would give a citizen.

Amherst (ED): High Match
Baylor (EA): Safety
Uchicago (EA): Low Reach
HYP: Mid-Reach
MIT: High/Mid-Reach
Dartmouth: High Match
Cornell: High Match
Columbia: Low Reach
Brown: High Match/Low Reach
Williams: Match
Swarthmore: Match
Carleton: Low Match/Safety
Davidson: Low Match/Safety
Wash & Lee: Match
Vassar: Low Match

Just a little side note about Baylor: my friend got in with a ~1500 on the SAT and top 15% class rank at our unassuming little public school. It’s not exactly the most rigorous admissions process.

bump!? quick update:
Deferred by Amherst and Uchi
Accepted by Baylor with merit.
