Hey! I’m a rising senior currently freaking out about college applications. This stage in the game I’ve begun to compile my final list of schools to apply to come fall and I was wondering if the top school on my list was a realistic pick.
I visited Syracuse during spring break and fell in love. Newhouse to me seemed like a whole different world from the rest of the campus. I feel like it offers great network opportunity for aspiring journalists plus it’s just a great atmosphere to be in.
ACT: 29 (plan on retaking in September), Superscore:30
GPA: 3.9W(school does not calculate UW)
with 5 AP’s and an average score of 4.5
EC’s: Editor in Chief of school paper, varsity lacrosse, speech team (leadership position as well), freshman peer mentor, writer for Chicago Tribune’s teen edition, as well as an online magazine’s blog, volunteered at local summer festival and homeless shelter each year.
I’d be applying OOS, I live in a somewhat affluent suburb of Chicago.
Achievements: AP Scholar with Honor, Statewide Journalism award, Most Improved Player in lax, academic letters every semester.
Hooks: URM- Black
Income: Parents are recently separated and I live with my mother so income is murky at this point. With my father: $155,000. W/o: $30,000
What are my chances to getting into Newhouse? I know it’s pretty competitive getting in there. Any advice and suggestions are appreciated!
