Chance me for NYU CAS ED, Cornell, UCLA, etc. ~WILL CHANCE BACK!

My main school of interest is NYU CAS, but there are some other schools I wouldn’t mind going to.
Something important to note is that I’ve been homeschooled since the second semester of my freshman year. My parents jobs required them to travel a lot (every week for several days), and there was no way that I could be enrolled in school. When I turned 17 and was allowed to stay at home alone (days by myself), I was able to get some things done.
Class rank:
1 out of 1 (:P)
GPA:
Unweighted: 3.92
Weighted: I’m not entirely sure, but I believe it’s a 4.33 (?). Again, I’m not entirely sure but I think I calculated it out to that not too long ago.
ACT: 29 (29 English, 27 Math, 27 Reading, 31 Science, 8 Writing). These are somewhat weak scores (or at least I feel that they are). Unfortunately, I wasn’t very serious about school until this past year (which I will explain later), and my last ACT test I didn’t have time to study for due to me taking 4 courses this summer. I recently took a practice ACT in a testing environment and scored a 33, so I’m planning on taking it again and hoping to score at least a 31/32.
SAT Subject Scores: I took it once a year and a half ago and the scores didn’t come out too well, so I’m not submitting them. I could try again if it would help.
Applying to:
NYU CAS - ED
UCLA
University of Miami
UCSD
UPitt
Penn State
Cornell
University of Texas – Austin
College transcript:
GPA: 3.4.
Psychology – B
Chemistry I – B (No ‘+’ grades were given, otherwise it would’ve been a B+. I got an A for the lab portion of the course, but I’m not sure if that appears on my transcript)
World Civilizations I – B (Again, would’ve been a B+ but I missed a quiz due to my boss being an ass so yeah…)
World Civilizations II – A
Macroeconomics – B+
English I – A
English II – B+
Something I should definitely mention because it’s on my transcript, is that I’ve had to retake 3 classes: English I and II (C+ and a C were the original grades) and Chemistry I (F was my original grade). I feel like out of everything, this may weigh me down the most.
A little explanation as to why I had to retake these courses. Like I mentioned earlier, before this past year I wasn’t very driven in my schoolwork. When I became homeschooled I pretty much did everything on my own time. I got all my coursework done, but there were no time limits and I could be lazy. When I first dual-enrolled, I had to overcome this habit, which took a while. Eventually I broke it, and now I’m on the right track. As far as the F in Chemistry I goes, I basically had a ****ty teacher and felt that I could teach myself (which I was wrong). I then got sick with pneumonia halfway through the course and I just stopped coming to class. I’m not planning on explaining this in my application or anything, as I don’t like making excuses. What matters to me is that I got my head straight and made everything up.
Also, I took Calculus I my first semester but withdrew (“W” mark on my transcript) due to taking too many classes and not being used to the time limits.
Moving forward.
A few exceptional classes (as part of my HS curriculum) that I’ve taken: Calculus I, II, Microbiology, Human Physiology, and Russian (in addition to Latin, but Russian’s a more interesting language).
Extracurricular activities:
- I’ve had a job for about two years now.
- Civil Air Patrol: I was in for about a year and then quit. I had school, traveling with my parents, and had recently gotten a job (a flexible one). I no longer wanted to be in the military, so I figured I would rather have the money.
- Ice Hockey: Two years or so.
- Volunteered for the current governor’s (of my state) political campaign (logged in quite a few hours and attended his induction).
- Internships: I’ve had two internships, both for engineering firms. One has been only this year, the other has been for this and last year.
- Volunteer service: I’ve volunteered for a local food shelter, hospital, and I took care of an elderly woman (not fun… she was 102).
- Travel: I’ve been told not to focus much on this, but I feel like I should at least mention it. I’ve been to over 21 countries. Almost all of North America and several places in Europe (12 countries or so), including Greenland and Iceland.
Letters of recommendation:
-My mom (it sounds funny, I know, but it’s what you do when you’re homeschooled)
-A mentor/close family friend. She has a lot of degrees, like two masters and a Ph. D., and she’s not even 30.
There’s a third I can get from a prominent military figure if I really need it, but I don’t think I will.
A bit of background information: I was born in New York, but I reside in Tennessee right now.
Extra: To my disadvantage, every time I’ve had the ACT I haven’t studied. Like I said before, I wasn’t very motivated. Unfortunately the next available ACT test date for me is October 27, 4 days before the NYU ED deadline. I can’t take the ACT test in September because I’ll be out of the country. I’m hoping that I’ll get into NYU this round, but if not I plan on applying again RD with my new and improved ACT scores. I’m also going to be 19 next fall and essentially missing a year of college.
Anyways, I’ll chance back if you chance me, just leave your link below. Any advice or information is appreciated. I’m also open to college suggestions. Thanks!

Your chances look good because your extracurriculars are unique. Your only drawback could be retaking the classes. Travel will definitely help you stand out! Plus, volunteering will look great, as will your interesting classes like Russian.

Thanks, that makes me feel better :). Keep them coming, please. If anyone wants me to chance them back, just leave their link.

Chance me back, please! :)

I would say your chances are good, but definitely take some subject tests! I know that lots of schools require them for homeschooled students, and it really helps them to know that you really did learn the subject material well compared to students enrolled in public or private schools. Also, try to bring up your standardized test scores like the ACT. Once again, being homeschooled, they will probably look at these more closely in comparing you with other applicants. Bring these up and I’d say your chances are looking good! Best of luck!

Oh, and please chance me back! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1378736-do-i-have-chance-columbia-other-tough-schools.html

Keep them coming, please.

I would say your chances look pretty good, since you’re homeschooled and still have a few ecs. The volunteering is really helpful, but retaking the classes might be a downside. If you can bring your act up it will probably help a lot.

I’ve decided to take the SAT I this October since I can take it and still get my scores in on time.

Keep chancing, please.

Bumping, need more people to chance.

I feel like you have a good chance of getting in. The traveling helps because NYU wants its students to be well rounded and from what you have said you are a prime example. Since you retook those classes that will look better for your application and help them see that you tried to recover as best you could. Hope this helps!
Chance back?
