Essays-

Personal statement: I’ve always been pretty talented at writing essays in general, so I did well on this. My counsellor and AP English teacher were impressed.

Letter of Reccomendation: UCs don’t require a letter of reccomendation, but I’ve asked my AP English teacher to do the Stanford Letter of Reccomendation for me. So, this should be well-written as well.

Additional comments: My school offers very few AP and Honors classes, so I’m disadvantaged in that area.

What is your UC GPA? https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
Post Uw UC GPA, Weighted capped UC GPA and Fully Weighted UC GPA.

SAT scores are low for all UCD/UCB and Stanford. What other schools do you have on your list? Safeties?

@Gumbymom

I have UC Merced and CSU Stanislaus as safeties.

My current GPA unweighted: 4.0
My weighted GPA: 4.50
My weighted and capped GPA: 4.50

Stanford: Reach
UCB: Reach
UCD: High Match

@Gumbymom

Thank you!

You rigor and test scores are lacking

By 6 on writing do you mean 6 on the essay — 6/24?

I saw some Bs, how can it be 4.0 unweighted ?

Merced and Stanislaus are likely to accept you.

I agree something is off with your GPA - your UW UC GPA looks closer to 3.7 and i just see one AP course Jr year so, weighted is perhaps 3.8 - with a sub 4 GPA, i think Davis is a reach.

Good luck

If I plug in your listed grades into the UC GPA calculator listed above, I get a UC UW GPA of 3.8 and UC Capped weighted of 3.9. Stanford also does not use Freshman grades in their admission decisions. Hopefully your writing will speak for itself but UCM and Stanislaus look like your only 2 realistic options. If you have the time and funds, I would apply to a few more schools unless you are happy with your safeties.

Berkeley and Stanford are reaches. If you’d like to compare yourself to another English major (me), you’re welcome to check out my chance me thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1939905-chance-me.html#latest

For Stanford standardized test scores are low, for UCB your GPA is outstanding. Your UC apps are already in. I’d say your chance at Cal is excellent. Please let us know where you end up. Good Luck!

Someone said that you lacked AP classes, but if you’d school doesn’t offer many your rigor will be determined by seeing how many higher level classes you took in relationship to what is offered. I agree that Stanford and UCB are reaches, but being an African American female may help you.
