GPA :3.8/48
SAT:1970 (first try)
ACT:TBD
Course load- all pre ap and ap when possible
EC: 72 hours volunteering at Baylor, will add 100 more this summer, NHS, SPHS, SHS, manage a small reseller on Amazon ($6000 in revenue last year)

Colleges-
Rice university (really want to go here)
UT Austin (McCombs or Petroleum Engineering Program)
Texas A&M
Baylor University
UTD Pact Program
Austin College (chance at full scholarship?)

Rice is a reach, the friends of mine that were accepted all had 4.0 gpas in top 10% with 2200+ SATs and excellent ECs

All the other schools are realistic for you to get into, I know for sure you will get into Texas A&M as well as Austin College, judging by Baylors profile, it is a match. McCombs and the Petroleum Engineering are both pretty prestigious programs at UT Austin and I’m not entirely sure on those, but I’d say to be safe a high match.

Rice - You won’t get in. It is getting more competitive every year.
UT McCombs - You will absolutely get in if you apply before mid-October when they make the first rounds of decisions. Otherwise I’d still say you have a very good chance of being accepted to McCombs itself… (NO for BHP)
UT petroleum engineering - You won’t get in unless you get 1400+ on m+cr SAT. If you get 1400+, you will get in.
Texas A&M - You will get in, possibly with a little merit aid
Baylor - You will get in with a huge scholarship (probably about 15k a year merit aid)
I am unfamiliar with the other two, but I can absolutely GUARANTEE on the ones I’ve listed above.

Thanks for the responses so far everyone! I’ll probably scratch off Rice on my list. Baylor scholarship seems good but doesn’t it cost $30,000 to go there so with the scholarship I’ll probably still have to pay around $15,000. UT Austin seems like the best bet for me right now. Is it wise to go to McCombs and get a business degree like economics and still get Pre Med Reqs done? Or is that just too much?

Economics is not in the Business school, it is in the College of Liberal Arts.
You can absolutely do pre-med classes with Economics. In fact, it would be very easy to do pre-med with Economics. There is a lot of wiggle room in the schedule of a COLA student at UT for it. Plus, you are assured acceptance into COLA because of class rank.
If you wanted McCombs on the other hand (perhaps a finance degree or marketing or something), it would be a little bit harder to complete all the pre-med pre-reqs, but it is still very do-able.
The Baylor scholarship is completely not worth it. It still costs more than schools like UT and A&M which are much better schools.

Thanks for the reply! It it true that McCombs does a purely holistic review now of their applicants? If I go to UT I definitely want to get into McCombs but I just want to make sure I have a really good chance. I heard most auto admits to McCombs are in the top 3%. I’m not even in the top 5.

You will probably get into Baylor if you apply by Nov 1. Actually, it costs 40,000 to go there. the 15,000 is about 1/2 of the tuition. But if you get invited to Invitiation for Excellence you can get a couple thousand more. If you win, then you can get a full ride.

@choirfarm
haha that is still a little expensive for me especially when considering UTD, which is 30 minutes away from me, is comparable in terms of academics. I am mainly interested in McCombs. Do you know if I have a chance for that?

I just posted this in another thread actually, but yeah I would aim for over a 2100. I went to a private high school in San Antonio and had several smart friends apply to McCombs and not get accepted (one applied to McCombs and got denied, but got into Notre Dame regular decision). I would echo that you should apply as early as possible because I think they do rolling admissions (my friend did not apply until 2nd semester I believe). Right now I have two friends there in the BHP program and several that go to UT with Plan 2, and they all had stellar GPA’s with excellent SAT’s.
