EECS/ Bio E major
Chinese female
~200 k family income

If you want me to chance you please post your stats and I can give my opinion

You have excellent qualifications, val status will help immensely, as will being a female interested in science. Great SAT II’s. 2300 v. 2250 will help just at the margins, but would be nice (and make you even more comeptitive) if you bumped up English score to 750 or above. EC’s solid but not amazing to Ivies. Challenging curriculum

My guesses:

Princeton, Stanford = high reaches (less than 10%)

MIT = reach (10 - 33%)

Penn, Cornell = low reaches (33% to 50% – in my opinion Penn or Cornell would be a good use for ED as you are competitive at each and Penn takes half its class that way and Cornell about 40%

Chicago could range from reach (10 - 33%) to low match (50 to 66%) depending on quality of your essays

Harvey Mudd = match (66% to 90%) – wants females and you are competitive regardless of gender

Thanks, Chicago seems to be a match compared to all of the people that I’ve met who’ve gotten in. They’ve all been really smart kids, but none of them have tried to find the cure to cancer or some other outrageous EC. I may reconsider applying to Cornell though. Does anyone want me to rate them?

Oh yeah I go to a public school known for maybe 4 or 5 ivy kids a year, 10-20 good private schools, and a lot of UC Berkeley kids and UC kids in general.

You have very strong curriculum, the kind I wish I had! I admire your dedication.
I think you should apply to any school you want. Your ECs are regular compared to the Ivies, and the fact that you are Chinese and high income may in fact work for you, as colleges are quite clearly NOT need blind. If you somehow say you will go through with as little finaid as possible, that will be another plus. As long as you can write your essays with authenticity and uniqueness, I’d say you have a lot of potential.

You’ve got a good shot at all of those schools, but I really think you should consider having some more safeties (in-state) on your list. One of my friends was really qualified (dare I say overqualified?) for Michigan, and he was rejected. I personally don’t think Cornell and Chicago are matches simply due to the competitive nature of both schools. Best of luck

I think you have a good chance at most of those schools, but cornell is definitely not a match, its more like a reach, just, to be honest, it is a reach for everyone. I think it is definitely possible for you to get accepted to princeton but it is extremely competitive and most of the other applicants have similar statistics, but that doesn’t mean you won’t get picked. I think princeton/mit/stanford/upenn/cornell would come down to your recommendations and essay. My sister goes to columbia which is of a similar caliber to those schools and she claims that half of the people she meets have over a 2300 SAT and were in freshman calc 4/5 so don’t expect that your sat scores or course load is completely abnormal, but it is in the right range so don’t get disheartened either; I think you are a good contender for all of these schools.

Sorry I’m not trying to be overconfident, but the people I know who’ve been accepted to U Chicago and Cornell have similar info to mine I prlly am under-estimating Cornell though. I used to live in Michigan, literally next door to the University of Michigan and my mom and dad used to work there. I make it very clear how U of M has influenced me in my essays and hopefully that will help.

ALSO PLEASE POST A LINK IF YOU WANT ME TO CHANCE D: thanks and thanks for all the input. Also any suggestions for good safeties/ matches that match my major?

Safety: University of Michigan
Match: University of Berkeley, Harvey Mudd,
Reach: UPenn, Cornell, Chicago
Super Reach: MIT, Stanford, Princeton

Chicago and Cornell are tough schools to get into now, especially for Asian applicants without a 2300+. You definitely have a good shot at Cornell, but I wouldn’t call it a match. Chicago could go either way.

Your SATs are not anything exceptional (you still did very well), so your chances at MIT, Stanford, top Ivys are low. That being said, you definitely could get in there, but it’s highly unlikely given the sheer number of people scoring above 2300.

I think you have a great chance at your match schools and you definitely are very competitive in the Cornell and UChicago applicant pools. Good luck!
