@theloniusmonk nope, although only one of my parents went to college but other than that no and idk if that would even make a difference as I am not low income or disadvantaged by any means
Based on our recent experience, Brown, Northwestern, Vandy would be super reaches for anyone, and none of the schools you’ve listed can be counted on as “sure bet” Targets based on your current scores and grades. So, make sure you broaden your list of schools to include Safeties that you would be happy at as our DD’s have seen many peers get denied/waitlisted at all of their target schools this year.
What is your intended major?
For UMich, your GPA is likely below their admission average of 3.87 (even higher for CoE) while your ACT is slightly above admission average (around average if for CoE). So your chance would be like an average OOS applicant at ~20%.
Depending on what location you are from, your current stats could put you in the 10-15% chance of acceptance range at U Mich - our DD’s school realized a 10% yield based on 60 applicants with no one under a 33 being accepted without a unusual EC.
@billcsho my GPA to be exact is a 3.84 (so its still slightly below average). I intend on majoring neuroscience so I’d apply to LSA
@Chembiodad I understand. I am OOS, but I go to a top public where many apply to u of M
These are least reliable indicators of potential outcomes in the future. None of these folks have any idea about admission committees working. These are hunches or mere guesses. Be skeptical of these predictions.
OP, I know it may seem crazy, but my DD’s school also sends lots of students to Michigan - typically 25-35% are accepted and this year it dropped to 14% on a base of 50-60 applications/year over the last five years. While one year doesn’t make a trend, we do know that applications jumped 10-20% at many schools so it’s best to be prepared for even more applications and a higher bar in the future.
