Counselor -
seems to like me well enough but idk about her letter. Likely to be very generic or at least “good enough.”

Junior year calculus and english teachers -
Both like me alot and I’m fairly certain that they’re both very good letters.

GLOWING rec letter from the founder and CEO of the organization that runs the school in china I volunteer at over the summer.

I think my essays are pretty good too - talks about how I grew from a shy and timid middle schooler into a competent public speaker and leader. Also mentioned alot of specific programs like the Solar Car Project and Formula SAE teams in my essays and HAIL interview.
Thanks!

My biggest worry is the low GPA. I’m hoping my leadership positions in my EC’s and volunteering and good rec letters can get me past the admissions committee.

Your GPA is a problem. But your 33 in Math and 36 on science ACT sections prove you’ve got potential for engineering. AP Physics and AP Calc BC…prove you’re well prepared in spite of your freshman year stumble. Competition is fierce, but you’ve still got a chance. Good luck.

I got in from Texas in the first round of RD releases. My ACT was relatively low for Engineering (31) and my GPA was average (3.85). I think they look a lot at extra curricular activities so try to find a few more leadership positions and and continue doing something over the summer to improve your community or academics and you should be in a good position

When did you submit your application? I submitted mine in late November and still haven’t heard back.

@alexng30 oh I thought you were a junior. My bad lol… I think those stats put you in a great position regardless. I applied early January. I don’t think they release decisions based on how early you submitted your application though. I think its based on where you live and how many people in your schools and nearby schools apply. That’s just a guess though. What part of Texas are you from

I’m from Houston so competition is pretty fierce where I live. I know from Naviance that at least 9 people from my school have already applied and 1 of my friends already got in through EA. So yeah, getting pretty bad anxiety right now.

@alexng30 Yup at my school only 2 other people applied so not much competition. I’m sure with your stats you have an excellent chance. The 33 in math and 36 in science will help a lot. At this point, it’s just about waiting since Michigan has only released a small percentage of their decisions. Best of luck to you!

Thanks for the encouragement. Been anxiety ridden for the past few days since I got CAP’d for UT even though I’m top 10%. UT was supposed to be my fallback but now its just like “huh, if UT won’t accept me as an in-state? How is U of M going to accept me as an OOS student?”

Bleh

If you haven’t already, make sure to send your midyear grades to confirm your upward GPA trend. Michigan has been known to defer EA applicants with an upward trend so they can see 7th semester grades, so it seems like adding them to your application might help you a lot.

@APJunkie24 interesting…hoping they let a bunch more know…it would be nice soon…like really soon.

Apparently we’ll have to wait till at least late next week for the next round of decisions to come out. Freaking out and its only Tuesday.

Gonna be a rough 2 weeks/ month.
