Chance me for UCLA??

Background: I really want to go to UCLA! I live in the South, and I go to boarding school. I recently got into UT Austin, and I know that both UT and UCLA have out-of-state acceptance rates of 28%.
I’m a female, and I’m applying for civil engineering.

I understand that my GPA is a little lower than it should be, but I also go to one of the top schools in the country. Before I moved to this school, my previous high school didn’t have a teacher hired to teach Algebra II and Pre Cal, so I sat in the library for an hour every day and taught myself both courses independently out of a textbook. Then, after being accepted to my current boarding school, I took the math placement test, placed into AP Calc, and made a C in the course. I explained this in my personal statement, as that is what accounts for my lower GPA.

Weighted GPA: 4.7/5.0
UC GPA: 3.7/4.0
SAT: 2080 Superscored (680 CR, 690 M, 720 W); not superscored I have a 2060
APs: Junior year: Calculus, Chemistry, US History, English Lang, Comp Sci,
Senior year: Stats, Physics, Biology, Spanish, English Lit
Essays: 9/10 (extremely well written, but not a sob story)

Activities:
-Interned in civil engineering lab last summer (I got paid)
-Interned with local business, did their marketing, created and managed their social media pages
-Varsity volleyball for 4 years, captain my senior year
-Club volleyball team for 7 years
-Varsity tennis for 4 years, region player of the year
-Secretary of GSA
-Yearbook committee for 4 years
-Did over 160 hours of community service, including with the Junior League
-Beta Club, 4 years
-National Honors Society, 3 years

I also was a National Merit Commended Scholar.

First question I always ask OOS students, can you afford the $55K/year price tag for UCLA? OOS students get little to no financial aid beyond the Federal student loans and Pell grants. You are competitive and have a good chance.

I’ve already discussed the numbers with my family, and we’re fairly certain that we can work it out. We also looked into the differences in starting average salaries for my major compared to the in state school I’d otherwise go to, and the long term benefits would greatly outweigh the initial debt (provided I get about 20k, which is what the UCLA aid calculator predicted)

Good Luck and hope you hear some good news soon.

Thank you!!
