most likely have to pay for myself lol
Schools
Safety - University of San Francisco, CSLB. CSF, Cal Poly
Likely - UCR, UCD, UCM
Match - (not sure what this means) UCSD. UCI, UCSB
Reach - UCLA, UCB, USC, UChicago, UPenn, Hopkins, or any suggestions to places that fit my major and I might have a shot at?
You are correct! The max at one CC is 11 units. At one of CC I applied for 3 classes (10 units) and I’m currently in the process of applying to another CC for 1 or 2 classes for the same term.
Do you have a test score - I know UCs won’t take but others will. I didn’t see.
When you say family income is over $100K, have you done a net price calc on a school like Hopkins…or try Rochester or Case or USC - i.e. schools taht meet need.
Your rigor is outstanding - your UW GPA is a bit low for top schools.
Crocheting is interesting for a male - so I’d get that in your app somewhere.
When you say you may have to pay - then you want to go cheap.
Others will provide you guidance on the UCs - but look at ASU, New Mexico, Utah, Alabama, Miss State…if cost is a factor…or schools like Occidental where you can get decent aid.
The GPA I provided is unweighted and fully weighted. To clarify, I also meant to put Cal Poly Pomona. If I put my stats into the calculator, what type of GPA is it giving me?
I applied for the next two SAT dates in November and December but I am not entirely sure if I will score anywhere near the average (>1500) for Privates and out of state, so I am considering going test-optional.
No matter your income fill out NPCs. You can only borrow $5500 and you wouldn’t want to borrow anything in an ideal world.
Depending on your need as the college determines should impact whether you even apply. There are many schools with auto merit to keep your cost down or schools that meet 100% of need. Hence you and your folks need to fill out the NPC.
You should be very careful with that. The rule is 11 credits total. Your school fills out the dual enrollment form and would not approve more than 11 units TOTAL. I suppose you can get around that by them not knowing what you actually sign up for. In that case, you would need to make sure that you don’t have that on your hs transcript because your school can get in trouble for that.
I also think its a problem because these classes are free to you in California. You are going over the amount of classes that are allowed and the school is getting payment from some source. (I honestly don’t know who reimburses the schools but that might be a problem)
One way that you can do this above board is to take your 11 units at a school that does semesters and then another class or 2 at a school that does a quarter system. To explain, you would take the spring semester and then a winter intersession at a quarter system school.
Not sure where you live but schools like Pierce College in Woodland Hills have a winter intersession because they are on a quarter system. Then a school like Santa Barbara CC is on a semester system.
You will do what you want but just be aware that your school would unlikely approve you taking more than 11 units total from all schools. You might check with them…
You are considered a part time student if you are enrolled in your school and taking DE
The exception for uptimes to 15 units is for “College and Career Access Pathways partnerships” and that is a special program that a student would be enrolled in.
I see. I have already applied to 3 classes at one CC already which is 10 units, but I’m experimenting to see if I could possibly take more at a different CC. The school doesn’t know about the classes I take until I mention it to them and it isn’t included in the high school transcript, but in the CC transcript. I will be cautious and see what I can do. Thank you for the info!!!
The Rogerhub calculator gives you all 3 GPA’s: Unweighted, Capped weighted and Fully weighted. The UC’s consider all 3 GPA’s but most UC statistical data is quotes the Capped weighted.
Below are the 2020 admit rates for the UC’s based on the capped weighted UC GPA. Although you have great HS course rigor, I am surprised your Fully weighted GPA is not as high as I would expect. You are still competitive, but UCLA and UCB will be tough admits.
2020 Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19 capped weighted and not major specific:
UCB: 14%
UCLA: 8%
UCSD: 39%
UCSB: 40%
UCD: 55%
UCI: 38%
UCSC: 82%
UCR: 90%
UCM: 97%
UCSD, UCSB and UCI would be in the High Match/Low Reach category.
UCD in the Match Category. UCR and UCM in the Likely/Safety Category.
With a 4.1 UCGPA, you’ll be competitive at most of the UCs but, they are somewhat subjective and it would be a shame to get shut out. I’d be sure to add a couple of CSUs (SDSU CSULB and CPP would be good) A couple of privates to consider, LMU, USD.
