Send the bio, it’s respectable. I hope you include your hobbies somehow in your app. I don’t have anything else to add, and agree with the previous chances ^
Only ivies Vanderbilt and Mellon should be Chancey. Your stats are really good and above the average by a considerable bit for most schools you apply to. I’d not send the bio scores since perfect 800s is nice. Also include your hobbies since it rounds you out better (so talk about skating but not 100%, maybe connect disciplines )
You have a decent-good chance of being admitted to your colleges. A tip that you probably already know, but since skating seems like a big part of you as a person, try to emphasize that aspect as much as possible. Although adding your other hobbies is good and all, having one crucial factor in your apps is how, I believe, many people that I see get accepted to many of the ivies and other similar schools.
Chance me back? Thanks. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1818642-stanford-rea-rd-cornell-brown-dartmouth-ucb-ucla-etc.html#latest
I think that as long as your first semester grades for senior year are good, you definitely have a really solid chance at the non-ivies (there’s a huge jump in your courseload from 11th to 12th…so many more APs senior year!). How many APs do people who get into very selective schools take at your school? If APs are less common, your chances are increased. Also, if you’re applying as a science major, good grades at SUNY in physics will look good. Ivies are always chancey but with good recs, essays and your ACT I think you have a fairly good shot at least at Dartmouth.
@feynman1729 I actually don’t know, but I do know that I have possibly the most challenging schedule of our senior class. There are 2-3 people who may have equally as challenging, but no one has a more challenging schedule. And APs at my school are super weird. No APs except for history APs before senior year basically, and some teachers are actually abnormally strict about recommending their students for APs, even if you meet the prerequisites. Like my APUSH teacher almost didn’t let me into AP Government, even though I had an A in his class, ended up getting a 5 on the AP, and an 800 on the USH subject test lol. But yeah, from my school, we usually have quite a few that get into Cornell and usually no better, probably 8-9 this year I think?, and the average was around 4-5 APs.
I think despite your antihook, you’re a strong candidate for most of your schools. Of course your ivies are reaches, but your success on those national language exams is impressive. I don’t think you get into all of the ivies, but I would be surprised if you didn’t get into one, especially Penn or Cornell. Chance me back! Thanks!
I think your app is relatively strong. ACT and subject tests are obviously very high. A little concerned with the lack of APs until senior year, but you clearly picked that up. I agree that you should really emphasize skating because the other ECs are a bit thin. But I think if you can really show depth through essays, etc. you will have solid chances.
UPenn CAS ED–high reach
2. Northeastern EA–match
3. Fordham EA–low match
4. Binghamton–low match
5. UMichigan LSA EA–match
6. USC–high match
7. UC Berkeley–reach
8. UCLA–reach
9. Cornell–reach
10. Columbia (lol)–high reach
11. Dartmouth–high reach
12. NYU Stern–reach
13. BU–match
14. WUSTL–reach
15. Vanderbilt–reach
16. Penn State–low match
17. Carnegie Mellon–reach
I also suggest reducing your list to closer to 12 schools. 17 seems like a bit much.
@hlb1998 when you say send the bio, that doesn’t apply to UPenn and any of the other schools on the list that don’t have score choice, right? Don’t you have to send all scores to schools like UPenn and Georgetown that require all scores?
I can’t compare your gpa since I am totally unfamiliar with how your system works but your ACT scores are definitely competitive for most of the schools on your list. Your ECs are also pretty unique and I would say that with some spectacular essays, you have a good chance at most of your schools. The top tier ones are a reach for anyone but you’re certainly in the running! Other than that, you’ve done as well as you could have up until now so it’s in the hands of the admissions gods! Good luck!
