No I didn’t but I applied relatively early compared to other people in my school (28 applied) and it’s rolling

I didn’t want to apply EA because they would compare me to my classmates who also applied EA, and I wasn’t as strong as them in terms of grades

Bumpppppppp

You know you can be recruited for table tennis haha? I know some colleges like Virginia Tech have nationally ranked teams. Anyways yeah those ECs will not be too helpful, but they aren’t awful. I’d say:

Penn- Far Reach (if you haven’t done an internship with a business you’re almost guaranteed rejection; my friend got rejected ED with a 2280 and a 4.0)
UVA- High Match (just because 44 of you didn’t get in doesn’t mean you aren’t worthy. You’ll definitely be a considered applicant.)
Michigan- High Match
USC- Match (I think you stand a great chance of entry)
Chicago- Reach (it’s basically an Ivy)

If you have the time:

Wow I wish I knew about that internship thing like two years ago haha. Anyway, thanks for the advice, and I’m probably not good enough to be recruited for table tennis, but I’m much better than the average player. I’m just hoping my 3 years of work experience is good because most applicants are too busy with volunteering and other EC’s to have a job. I’m still expecting denial though.

It is! You have some interesting stuff. If you have won any awards, either school related or not, be sure to throw that into your Common App. Your ECs aren’t bad, you’re just lacking a prominent leadership position and they’re very… unique… I’m not sure whether that will help or hurt you.

Yeah the internship came as a surprise to me. I actually looked it up and it’s pretty accurate: very few people that haven’t done an internship with like Google or something end up getting in (of course, it’s a 5% acceptance which is in itself living hell).

I considered an internship after junior year, but I thought I wouldn’t have time to do it with my job. I guess I should’ve taken the summer off from work or something, but it’s too late now. Penn is my reach school and I’m already in Pitt and Ohio State, which are solid schools, so it’s not a huge blow if I don’t get in Penn

Wharton - high reach
Chicago - reach
UVA - low reach
Michigan - high match
USC - high match

Make sure you apply to a safety.

I applied to around 15 schools, and those 5 are the only ones I’m not guaranteed to get in, so all the others are basically safeties

Those are both terrific backups yeah! I wouldn’t honestly worry about it too much, if at all.

I still want to get in obviously, but I have plenty of other options on the table

Wharton- Reach for everyone

Chicago- Reach for everyone

USC- Match

Michigan- Match

patjeff45- hahaha of course! Everyone does!

It does not matter if you applied to EA or RD, you will still be compared with other students from your school. When you apply RD, they will also look at the stat of other students applied EA from your school anyway.

UPenn- Medium to High Reach

UVA- Low Reach to Match

UChicago- Low to Medium Reach

USC- Low Reach to Match

Michigan- Match

Since I’m on the subject here, do you play tournaments and stuff like that?
I also play table tennis and rated nationally as well-- about a 720.
But this rating was about a year ago since I buckled down and studied. It’s my junior year and I can’t mess it up. I won a couple of tournaments here and there but it’s great to see a fellow, avid table tennis player.

Hawkace, I play in tournaments about once or twice a year, and I haven’t been rated in a while but I’m around a 800. I also play almost year round in my league. It’s probably my most important EC

Yeah, UPenn Wharton should be considered like HYPS, mid-high reach. UChicago is marginally easier. I think you’ll get into the rest.

I think I’ll get into Michigan and USC, but virginia usually accepts much more people in state and the out of state acceptance rate is extremely low, so I think that’s a reach for me

I’m assuming you chose those schools for their business programs? Make sure you’re able to convey that interest through your essays/ECs

Yes I will be applying to the business school at all of these schools and for the supplementals I talked about why I wanted to do business.
