Chance me for UT Austin please!

I am high school senior currently living in Houston. UT Austin is my dream school, and I would like to know my chances of getting in.

High school current overall gpa- 4.1 weighted, 3.1 unweighted (I know these are horrible...)

I am not going to lie, my terrible gpa's come from laziness.

SAT-
1860- (720 M, 600 CR, 540 Writing) Also bad...

Extracurricular stuff/volunteering

I am in National English Honors Society, National Math Honors Society, Red Cross Club, Key Club (Like Red Cross basically), and Chess Club at my school.

I completed the entire Kumon math program, from level A to level O. dunno if this helps or not...

AP test grades-

4 for Stat, 4 for Art History, 3 for english, 4 world history, Calculus 4, AP spanish 4

***Also- I don't know if it would help to include this, but when I was in sixth grade, I took a test called the Credit By Exam, in order to skip math and english. I ended up passing the exam, and because of that I have about 3 more credits than any of my classmates.

Worked as a lifeguard for 2 years in a row.

No sports.

Completed a Piano Theory test for college credit, passed and obtained said credit.

Other schools that I would like to attend if I can't get into UT are:

UCSD, UC Berkeley, UC Irvine, U of Colorado.

EDIT: I did not include this stuff: Class rank, about 100th (top quarter) yes I attend a very lowly ranked high school.

Also, both of my parents are from Iran. I don't know if this will assist me, but I've heard stories of people in simlar situations who have gotten in just because they are indian or iranian.

Also I am planning on majoring Business Administration.

Probly not but you could try applying anyways. Chance me for Cornell. I have a 4.3 unwieghted

Bump /././…/

Admissions into UT will vary depending on which major you’re applying to. If you’re shooting for McCombs or Cockrell, your rank and SAT score are likely to hinder you.

Do you have any great ECs or ECs that are related to your future major? If you do, then try to tie in your essay with your ECs. Good luck!

umm, EC’s are Piano for over 8 years, which doesn’t really involve business. However, as I had stated in my post, I did complete the entire rigorous kumon math program, level A to Level O. Also, i have a question for you, since you seem to be very knowledgeable on this topic. If i had gotten a higher SAT score (Say, 2100-2200), with the same GPA, do you think I could have gotten in, considering I am a minority male, living in-state, with good background?

Piano is a fairly standard EC and probably won’t boost your application by much. I’ve also never done Kumon, so I don’t know how much of an impact it will have as an EC for McCombs, although it does show long-term participation.

If you’re planning to major in finance (or something both business and math related), math ECs such as regional/state awards from UIL and A&M’s Math Competition will be a solid boost. Good ECs for McCombs generally includes long-term participation/awards for DECA and Future Business Leaders of America (some classmates are applying to McCombs this year). If you retake your SAT on Oct 6 and score above a 2100, it will definitely improve your chances of getting in.

As for your minority status, Middle Eastern students are generally well-represented, so don’t rely on that (colleges mainly look for African-American, Native-American, and Hispanic minorities).

Lastly, what percentile is your rank at your school? Do you have a long history of volunteering? Is your school competitive, and are you on good terms (as in good rec letters) with your teachers?

P.S. Take my advice with a grain of salt, as I am also a senior applying to college.

Thanks for the help man. I am about 100th in my class (20th percentile). I will try to get into DECA this year, although im kinda too late. my volunteering record is almost nonexistent, however I have maintained steady jobs since 15 years old, which may be good for the business school to know. lastly, my school is pretty competitive, and rec letters are not great, but they will do.

bump…///

B-b-b-bump!!!

Last Bump…

Your GPA is kinda low, and you don’t seem to make up for that low GPA with any exceptional EC’s other than the generic clubs/music instrument. Combined with a low SAT, your chances probably aren’t too great.

Might as well try, there is nothing to loss
