Chance me for UT Dallas as well as UT Dallas AES Distinction

Here are my stats and gpa, would it be good enough for a UT Dallas offer:

29 ACT ( 35M,34S) - I know it not really good and I’ll retake it but I think 31 would be my maximum.
Have taken Alevel Math, Physics and Chemistry.
GPA ~ 3.85 or higher as Alevel GPA is weighted more than US scale.
Competed in several debate competitions - Regional, National level and also Global round at Yale.
Winner of National Brainiest TV program.
Several medals at Regional Competitions for Math Excellent Student
Bronze medal at Regional Athletic Competition.
I’m an international student so financial aid is extremely important to me. Though my stats are not really stand out, what should I do in order to have AES scholarship .
Is there any suggestion for a relatively good Uni that may offer more money for my stats.
Note: my favorite course is Computer Science
Thank you so much !!!

@mai1902 I don’t see any reason you won’t be admitted to UTD but as to AES it’s anyones guess, they are reworking how they award AES starting this year, but I’d bet you’d have a shot if you increase your ACT score. If you are applying for Fall 2019 the best thing you can do is get your application in as soon as possible, if you are applying for Fall 2020 I’d suggest taking the most rigorous classes available to you.

As I know that UTD has rolling admission and get a little bit confusing with it. Does it mean that the sooner I apply, the bigger chance I have? If it is, what is the prior deadline for application? Thank you so much @3scoutsmom , you are my savior in this battlefield.

@mai1902 yes, the sooner you apply the better your odds, ALL you paper work, test scores, transcripts etc… need to be complete by January 15th. You need to remember that there are US Holidays in November (Thanksgiving) and December/January (Christmas/New Years) so the sooner you can get things processed the better. UTD is very familiar with overseas applications but it may take a little longer to review your transcripts and confirm your awards.

I’m applying to UTD and was wondering the chances for AES Distinction.

GPA: 3.71/4.00 UW

In my Junior year, my grades dropped and I got a D and C because of family issues at home. If I write a not about this to the office will the admissions office understand the grade drop?

SAT: 1530
EC: Internship at OHSU for Biology
Volunteering 300 hours
Have Art Business
Make art pieces that sell
Research on an Environmental and Health based project

This is all they will look at for AES:

@3scoutsmom what about supplements like essay, resume, and teacher recommendations?

They won’t look at supplemental things like resumes, AP scores or subject tests, they may consider teacher recommendations and essays especially if you are on the edge. You have to remember the volume of applicants they have to deal with because everyone that is accepted to UTD is considered for AES, they aren’t going to read everyone’s essays.

Does this mean you shouldn’t write the optional essay? NO! Even though it’s likely they won’t read it there’s still a chance they might. If you and someone else have exactly the same stats and they don’t have an essay and you do it might push you over the edge.

AES is very stats driven, they want Test Scores, GPA, Rank and Rigor. The don’t care about how many volunteer hours you have, if you’re an Eagle Scout or what research you’ve done, other scholarship may use these as factors but not AES. My reply above was a quote from UTD’s AES web page - that is all they are looking for. Now if you want to go for UTD’d McDermott scholarship, that’s where essays, rec’s and service are huge factors.

Also keep in mind that UTD offers a set number of AES awards and as UTD’s reputation has grown, more and more high stats kids are applying to UTD so every year it’s that much more difficult to get an AES award

@3scoutsmom Thanks so much. D20 has already written her essay but was unsure about the resume and didn’t want to ask for recommendations so it looks like she will be ok.
