It’s looking like one of my letters is going to fall through (or be a fairly trope-y LOR), but because of that I’ve realized that I might have an even stronger professor rec up my sleeve. I’m taking a COM class, and joined the debate team this semester (COM class taught by same guy), and as a complete noob in debate I made it to the quarterfinals in my first competition. I believe I have enough time to scrape it together, and I emailed Brown some specifics that would determine how strong my situation is. I would like this professor to have some time to write the letter, and not feel rushed to pump it out in less than a week (3/1 deadline), so if Brown will let the letter come through a week later that will be much better for this professor and my sanity.
Just received a joint offer to the top school in Scotland and William and Mary – something to consider. Will weigh against my other acceptances as they come through
I’ll say this that I’ve said to many students trying to transfer. Unless it’s for health or financial reasons, it’s almost always a very bad idea. Going from an affordable school to a 60k a year university, thinking it’s more than a bachelors, and hoping for generous financial aid doesn’t usually end well, unless your parents have a big wad of cash saved up for your college.
I’m an out of state student applying mostly to schools that give full need aid, and am sorely lacking in academics and enviornment. I don’t know what to tell you.
Yes, I’ve thought so as well. My extracurriculars are really strong and interconnected in some fashion as I’ve described them – I think this will play well with the smaller liberal arts colleges. With the joint program with William and Mary and St Andrews I wouldn’t have to comply with W&M’s core, although the financial situation of this option is ostensibly an enigma.
Note that the OP is a highly qualified applicant, seems genuine in his desire to match himself properly, and has chosen his potential transfer schools with care. The only poor ending, in my opinion, would have been for the OP to not consider the option of transferring at all.
Had a waver-free application to Whitman as a first-gen, was accepted today. Also applied to Holy Cross as another target, and removed GWU and Vanderbilt because I had no interest in attending these schools aside from location/prestige. Shouldn’t hear from anywhere else for another month or so, going off of previous years.
Please let us know what decision you received from colleges, we are very intrigued! Also idk if you mentioned it anywhere but did you apply for financial aid for the schools you’re trying to transfer to?
For anyone who has followed this thread, I have an update that requires it’s own thread altogether. If you are interested (I need help lol), here it is:
Rejected from Brown and Haverford, accepted to Grinnell with ostensibly a full ride. Waiting on Hamilton, but Grinnell is looking to be very competitive unless Hamilton/Wesleyan give me a competitive package.
