I will be taking SAT on Nov 4th after months of studying since my ACT

I want to apply to University of Michigan, but I am not sure if I should submit my ACT score or not, as it falls under the 25% average of 31, and I am right at a 30. Also, I don’t know if my extracurriculars are strong enough, and I’m also not an in-state resident in Michigan.

Have you run the net price calculator and is the result within your budget?

"This Net Price Calculator (NPC) will help you explore the cost of a University of Michigan, Ann Arbor education and help you make informed decisions as you plan for college. The NPC will help you estimate your eligibility for financial aid and approximate your out-of-pocket expenses as a degree seeking, full-time student at the University of Michigan.

To help you respond to our questions, we recommend that you have your federal income tax forms or a recent pay stub, and bank statements available for you to reference when responding to our questions."

Can your parents afford $76K to $80K per year?
U of M is a public university which means that their state’s taxpayers help to fund the school. Non-residents (OOS) don’t contribute to that state’s taxes so, priority funding goes to Michigan’s residents. Non residents typically pay full fees.

Fill out the NPC, as suggested by @BuckeyeMWDSG and see what it tells you about the Cost of attendance.

It’s around $68k, which my parents can pay for.

It looks like roughly $76K per year for LSA, see this page. That $76K includes reasonable estimates for your travel costs to/from AZ a few times a year and incidentals. Note this $76K is for 2023-24. For next year, plan on a 5% increase.

I would send your test score for two reasons 1) Mich prefers tests and 2) you are URM.

I do not think you will have your SAT test score by Nov 15, the deadline for reporting a new test score. You could send your test score directly via free score send, but obviously that carries some risk…and still not sure the Nov 4 test will make it by Nov 15.

The Nov 4th SAT scores come out on Nov 17th so late for the Nov 15th deadline if they OP wants to do EA.

If you are not admitted EA and postponed to RD, you can submit a new score:

" If I was reviewed as a test flexible candidate during Early Action and I was not admitted, can I change my mind and report an ACT/SAT score for consideration after being postponed into the Regular Decision (RD) pool?

  • Any postponed Early Action applicant or applicants who are applying RD may self-report a new ACT and/or SAT score for consideration as their application is evaluated for a final decision as long as the score is reported prior to the Feb. 1 application deadline. This includes students who initially asked to be evaluated without the consideration of an ACT/SAT score. We would also encourage these applicants to submit first term senior year grades for consideration."

from Application Changes | University of Michigan Office of Undergraduate Admissions

I am confused. If there is a deadline on February 1st to submit new ACT/SAT scores, then why are people in this thread stating November 15th is the deadline to submit new scores?

For a score to be considered during the EA evaluation it must be received by Nov. 15.

But many (most) applicants end up being postponed (are not rejected or accepted in the EA round).

If that happens (postponed to RD) then scores submitted by Feb 1 are considered.

Ah I see, thanks for the info.

I would personally not submit the score. But 78% done and that’s the catch. You almost have to. So I’m that sense I would. Many of those other 22% will have hooks - like athletics.

I don’t know if money is an issue but if so you might revisit with your parents. And the last two years at UM jump up immensely.

Good luck.
