I applied early action to college of LSA
I’d say your chances are good, considering that you are in-state and have a perfect GPA + first time college student in family. The ACT is a concern - still at the low end of in-state admissions but not so low that it rules you out, and your GPA may get a downgrade because your school isn’t high performing (hopefully you took a rigorous schedule in HS). That being said, could you retake the ACT and add a few points? At the 32-34 level more scholarship money kicks in. That would make a large difference - and also make you a viable candidate for the big name Ivy’s and privates (e.g. Chicago, Vanderbilt, etc) who take race into account and don’t require loans as part of their FA. You could apply with an admissions fee waiver at your income level.
I expect Michigan will give you 100% FA with some allowances for a Pell grant and possible loan. Michigan’s FA is on par with many private schools.
I would also apply to MSU as your safety - you will certainly be admitted there.
Good luck and Go Blue!
@TooOld4School The only problem with retaking the act is that I already applied early action. Next test date is December so they wouldn’t take that score into consideration.
True, but if you are deferred (which happened to many students last year partly because of the huge number of applicants) it would definitely help you if your score improved, and would also help you with applications to other universities. Think of it as risk mitigation - you won’t know before the Dec ACT whether you were admitted, and you won’t have a chance to re-take the ACT in time for the Jan 1 application deadline at most of the Michigan class universities you might select as alternates after your hear back from Michigan (usually mid-late Dec)
@TooOld4School As much as I want to go to Michigan, I am done paying for the ACT. I am broke and I have already spent $150 on my past act. I can’t afford to pay $80 to take another test. If I don’t get into Michigan, I already have Michigan State as my safety.
I’m applying there too with about a 3.6 GPA and a 2100 sat (800 M 630 CR 670 W) and I’ve been told it’s pretty much a reach for me. However, I’m out of state, and your GPA is much better than mine, so I’d put you in the low-reach category based on what I’ve heard
