Chance Me? (I'll chance back)

Female NYC

GPA: 4.0 UW - My school doesn't rank but I would be 1 (weighted GPA around 4.7 I think)

ACT: My most recent from September is again a 31 composite (35 English, 30 Math, 32 Reading, 28 Science, 10 essay)
I took it before in June and got a 31 ._.

Senior courseload:
I'm taking the most rigorous courses offered

AP English, AP Human Geography, AP Spanish, Honors Physics, Honors Latin 5, Post AP Calc math class, and a music and art elective

Last year for APs I also took AP Bio and AP Calc AB

ECs/Volunteering:

Crew team - member/rower since 8th grade and captain 11th and 12th

School newspaper - reporter since 8th grade and sci/tech editor since 11th

Women's Health Awareness Club - member since 9th grade and president 12th grade

Animal Rights Club - 10th, 11th, 12th grades

GSA club - member - 10th, 11th, 12th grades

Awards - National Latin Exam - Summa Cum Laude and Maxima Cum Laude (grades 9, 10, maxima in 11)

My essays are pretty good and everyone who has read them has loved them

My recs should be pretty strong too (one from english teacher/advisor and another from AP bio teacher)

Questions - Do you think my ACT will hinder my chances for some schools? I'm not sure if it will make the difference or not, and I don't know how much I will improve. I reeally want to go to Cornell and though it's near the ACT average (and everyone who's gotten accepted from my school has had lower GPAs and test scores), I'm still worried

Chance for:

Cornell ED (College of Agriculture and Life Sciences with a major in Animal Science)
Northeastern EA
UPenn
Johns Hopkins
Tufts
Middlebury
Brandeis
Trinity College
Lafayette College
American University

Thank you!

Try taking the SAT, sometime. Some people are intrinsically better at one than another.

In any case, most of the colleges you listed are reaches for everyone.

Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1690007-claremont-mckenna-duke-bucknell-grinnell-uofr-chances.html</a></p>

Bump?

This would be my guess:
American: I would think youd get in
Northeastern, brandeis, trinity, Lafayette: matches (you have a good chance)
Tufts, upenn, JH, middlebury: reaches
Overall, you have good stats I agree Id try the sat if you want some of these schools. I would also add a couple of safeties to your list. Furthermore, just know these schools are very competitive and there really isn’t a formula to who gets in and who doesn’t. I got rejected from college of the holy cross, and accepted to northeastern, BC, nad brandeis. Admissions are strange! Good luck :)

Oh and for Cornell: since you did a summer thing there I would definitely go for Ed, my friend got in to Cornell when she applied ed. She had similar stats and was a state track champion. So, out of all the ivies that’s probably your best shot

I think you have a good chance for Cornell. I’m not sure about most of the other schools. I would say American is a low match.

I think you have a good shot at Brandeis & American! All of them are worth applying to, though. Good luck!

Chance back?

Chance back? It won’t let me post link but you can look at profile

Problem with SAT is if you decide to do it, you’ll have to take the SAT IIs as well. If you have the time, give it a shot, or redo your ACT if you’re confident your score will improve. Colleges don’t like to see people who keep taking the same tests without any change.
But seeing as how the rest of your application is very strong, a marginally lower ACT shouldn’t make too much of a difference for your matches. Cornell will be a reach for anyone.
Email the school showing your interest as well.

Please chance me back, link isn’t posting! Thanks!

Thanks to everyone who chanced me! I would take the SAT, but it’s kind of too late. I don’t really know the test, and I think the ACT is just better suited for me, even though I didn’t do superbly.

My college counselor said I should be fine for most of the schools with my ACT score, so I hope he’s right.

@Username97‌ and @hoppinhopin‌ - I can’t find your chance threads. Can you PM the links to me?

I can’t figure out how to pm on phone but here is URL http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1690899-chances-at-mostly-liberal-arts-schools.html</a></p>

UPenn is a reach, and JHU/Tufts/Middleburry/Cornell ED are low reaches. Northeastern, American, and Brandeis are matches/low matches, and the rest are low matches/safeties. Bump up your ACT and you should be completely fine and competitive for most schools on your list. Chance me please?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1692525-please-chance-me-for-northwestern-ed-cornell-upenn-and-more-will-chance-back.html#latest</a></p>

Although ACT is kinda low, I think you’re showing a pretty consistent passion for animal care, which is important if you’re ED’ing to the college of animal sciences. I think you have a pretty good shot at Cornell. If your ACT was 34+, I’d say you have a really good chance. Upenn is a reach, rest are match except American which is probably lower. Good luck!

Upenn, Cornell, JHU - reaches
I am not familiar with the other schools, sorry!
Good luck!

Northeastern EA- Match

Middlebury- High Match
Brandeis- High Match
Trinity College- Match
Lafayette College- Match
American University- Low Match
Cornell- Low Reach

You have no leadership in your clubs and didn’t show much interest in one field, if you get your science ACT up and overall up you’ll be a lot more competitive.

Northeastern Yes
UPenn if higher ACT yes
Cornell No

Sorry, I don’t know anything about the other schools :(

Chance me Back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1692599-chances-at-mit-ed-cal-tech-university-of-illinois-at-urbana-champaign-and-stanford.html#latest</a></p>

Oh, and your GPA is so good it makes me wanna cry hahaha.

I think that you have an excellent chance at Cornell ED. The summer program shows contact with the school and interest. It may not seem important but colleges really do like to see students who show genuine interest, although you’re definitely showing that my applying ED. You are right that your ACT score is on the lower side, but I think your ECs will balance that out. Your ECs show commitment and portrays you as a well-rounded student
UPenn/JH/Middleburry are probably your reach schools
Tuft- Low Reach
I’m not sure about the other schools but good luck with your applications:)

Chance back please!!
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1692209-chance-me-for-northwestern-ed-pleaseee.html#latest</a></p>

I think you have a good chance of getting accepted in the college of your choice. Your ECs stand out. Academically you are pretty well rounded. Maybe try taking the SAT, if not, than its cool. You still have a good score. Chance Me?

@sarai02‌ - Can you link me to your chance thread?

Thanks again to everyone else who chanced me.

@iwantivy8888‌ - I think I’ve shown a lot of interest in things with animals. There’s not much opportunity for leadership at my school because it is really small, but I’ve done what I can. I’m really not sure if I can improve more on the ACT, though. I’m getting mixed responses, so I’m still not sure what to do. I don’t want my effort in studying to go to waste if I get the same score, but I don’t want to not get in because of it.

I think chanced everyone who gave me links, but let me know if I missed yours.

Also bump - I’ll keep chance you if you chance me.
