Chance me(international)

Chance me for Purdue Main camp, Penn State Main camp, Pepperdine and Ohio State Columbus.

Around 3.6 high school GPA from grade 9-11 out of 4.0 system

7 Honors classes and 4 AP(taken throughout Gr10-12)

103hrs of community service

Honor Role in Freshmen year

According to the US news ranking, the HS I've been in for 3 years is number 1 in my State.

My ACT score is only 22(it sucks, retaking in December) but Purdue and Penn State makes it optional for us international students.

102 on TOEFL iBT(88 is minimum for Engineering major)

I was in a pretty terrible school in Canada during Freshmen year so my Grades in that year was like a 3.3 or something bad like that converted to GPA system. My classes during Freshmen year was also very terribly picked. So I have a good Grade progress throughout my high school career. (I will include that in my Application if I could)

Good teacher recommendation, Good essay

My Major is Computer Engineering/Science, Financial aids don't matter. I took 4 semesters of Cisco in my school to prepare me for this. AP comp sci is not available in my school but I m currently taking AP Calc

I currently live in US, F2 Visa, Been in US for 2 and half a year and Canada for 3 years. I'm Chinese born but Canadian Citizen.

And like my names says I got 800 SAT Chinese if that matters at all(also speaks 3 languages, Chinese English and Took 3 years of French).

Thank you. Best Regards

What can you pay?

My parents can support me throughout college, so full tuition wouldn’t be a problem if thats what you meant. :)

Also some disadvantages if u consider them are:
*School is on a 7 point system instead of 10, also doesn’t give any advantage in GPA if you take honors( Do colleges re-calculate your GPA?)
*Took no high school classes in middle school cause my middle school offered none. I had to take 2 maths in Grade 10.
*I never took grade 5, I was forced to jump to Grade 6 when I came to Canada by the school. I also only had 3 months of Grade 6…

Bump Please chance me

Purdue - Low Reach (in if ACT = 28+ in Dec.)
Penn State - Low Reach (in if ACT = 28+ in Dec.)
Pepperdine - Low Reach (in if ACT = 28+ in Dec.)
Ohio State - High Match (in if ACT = 28+ in Dec.)
Raise your ACT to 28+!!! (see above, lol)

Thank you but I thought 26 was average and people got accepted with 23.Also please remember I got 103 on TOEFL iBT and SAT/ACT is completely optional(tho recommended obv) for Penn State/Purdue . A friend of mine got in Penn State only taken the TOEFL and didnt even take SAT/ACT…need more chances!!!

Yeah, 22 ACT is fairly low. Raise that a bit, and they’ll all be slight reaches, possible matches. (Purdue, maybe penn low reaches, Pepp and Ohio match)

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1038240-chance-me-non-ivies-o.html

Please be clear tell me what “a bit is”!!! Also any other way to make my application stronger besides raising up ACT scores? Thank you. (need more chances)

I’m not familiar with needblind etc. terms, but I THINK that the not needing of financial aid is going to be a good help for you. Looks pretty good now honestly. I’d say 26 is what you should aim for, and if you can get it to a 30, you’re good to most schools. But, I’m unfamilair with how the ACT works, so I can’t be of much help

Thank you for your help. I can pay for full tuition plus boarding if I get accepted into one of the ones I listed! Also I’m gonna aim for a 25, start prep tomorrow!Thank you for your response!

Still need more Chances Please

I am sorry but i am not familiar with these universities but you could definitely raise your ACT and be passionate about sth because passion has magical properties  Good luck!

Thank you I have around 2 weeks to study and retake the ACT. Need more chances please

Not very familiar with any of the schools at all, unfortunately, other than hearing that Penn State’s pretty good- sorry! ;_; I think you’ve got a pretty fair chance anywhere, though - might have been better to have some more extracurriculars and such (but if they don’t look at it much, shouldn’t matter). Your GPA’s high, especially since your school’s top in the state, so don’t worry too much. Most of those should be matches to low reaches. 8D Good luck!

thank you for the reply. the place i live in is very isolated and hard to find any ec besides band and a few sports, which im not that interested in. plus i’m not very familiar with many people since i moved here just 2yrs ago. anyways, more chances are welcomed.

Friends please recognize that I’m not required to submit my SAT/ACT scores for PSU, Purdue and maybe Pepperdine. As quoted from PennState Website:

"Standardized Tests

SAT or ACT

The SAT or ACT is required if your native language is English, or if you are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. It is optional if your native language is not English and not required if you have completed a year of post-secondary course work. Please visit The College Board or ACT, Inc. to arrange to take the exam."

Since Mandarin is my native language its optional for me. and also

“A minimum TOEFL score of 80 on the Internet-based TOEFL” Which I got 102 and is over the min score for any major and average score at PSU.

Bump, more chances

If your essays/recs are good, and you get your ACT up to 28+ like others are saying, most of these schools will be a low reach/high match for you.

GL!

I think you have a pretty good shot at all of them. Your ACT is pretty low, but I see you do not have to submit it. Like someone else above said, if you can get your ACT higher and submit it these schools go from pretty good shot to likely in.
