bump

@381jcnsbmms‌ - 4.0 weighted has no meaning without knowing the weighting system and your unweighted GPA.

I’m only going to chance you on Harvard, as it is the only one of these schools I have direct knowledge on:

If your school is really strong, top 10% may be competitive, but for most schools, Harvard will be looking for top 1-2%. Your SAT score is really low for Harvard, and I am sure they would like to see 4s on your APs.

First-generation African immigrant will definitely be a hook as a URM if you’re black, but if you’re white, it’s probably not going to help you at all (and I would question whether applying SCEA to Harvard is actually a good strategy).

Bump

Even for a URM, your SAT score is very low for Harvard

I have to say that Harvard and Columbia are huge reaches for you. UVA, UNC, and Michigan are all reaches unless you are in-state for any of them. Michigan has laws in place prohibiting race as a factor in admissions, and so your URM status can’t help you much there. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that Virginia and NC have similar laws; both states have large African-American populations and active athletic recruitment programs, so race probably isn’t much of a “hook” at any of those three colleges. Penn State is a match or high-match (depending on your unweighted GPA), unless you’re a PA resident (it’s a low-match, if not a safety, in that case). Cornell is a reach, but your chances might be better there than at some of the other reaches on your list. Binghamton is a match, if not a safety. Hofstra is a safety. Maybe add one or two of the following to your list: Fordham, Syracuse, Pitt, Temple, William & Mary, University of Richmond.

BUMP

B . U. M. P.

@381jcnsbmms‌ what more do you want to hear? I highly doubt that anyone would consider you a strong candidate for HYPSM with a 2050 SAT and 4.0 weighted. That’s not to say that you shouldn’t apply but rather that you should have realistic expectations. You’d be extremely lucky to get into any one of those.

@onlythebest13 Well there is more than one school on the list…

Not sure about Hofstra and Binghamtom but you better scratch off all the other schools because of your SAT is way too low to even considering applying to Ivies, and moderately low for UMich, UVa, and UNC, and Penn State.
Unless you had extenuating circumstance-poverty doesn’t count-like bad family situation, working your butt off to support yourself and family, or anything like that, colleges won’t want to accept you.

Not enough APs will also negatively affect you…are you applying for FA?

@paul2752 i thought i had a chance at Penn State…:frowning: and yeah I am but ty for the advice

Sorry not Penn State, my mistake.

You will most likely get into PSU, Binghamton, and Hofstra. Others may be reaches. You have a great shot at Cornel. Best of Luck!

@381jcnsbmms‌ My mistake. For some reason, I thought you were asking for your chances only for Ivy league schools.

You most likely won’t get into the Ivys and UVA because of your SAT school, but the others you have a decent shot at ;D

bump

What else do you want to hear? Other people would say similar things

Two questions that would really help us to gauge you:

What is your unweighted GPA?

What is your state of residence?

I’d say ivies are all high reaches. UVA and UNC slight reaches, Binghamton match
