Hello guys!
I would love to attend Stanford next fall, it is my dream college!
Please chance me based on my stats:
UW GPA: 4.1
W GPA: 5.7
SAT: 1600
3 800s on Subject Tests (Chem, Math 2, Bio)
10 APS
OOS - New Jersey
Top 2% in my class (out of 600 people)
EC: Tennis (9th - JV, 10-12th - Varsity (Captain this year))
Some other stuff, like volunteering and school clubs.
Quite a few leadership positions.
I also attended a medical program over the summer at Stanford and I got a letter of recommendation from the director if this affects my chances at all.
I think my essay is pretty good, and my recs are decent.
Please let me know if I have a good chance!
Thanks in advance, and good luck if you’re applying!
The acceptance rate at Stanford is 5%. No one has a “good” chance. Obviously your stats make you competitive but nothing really jumps out from your ECs. Be sure to have match and safety schools on your list.
It is really hard for us to guess, and a guess is probably the best that anyone can do.
Stanford said in an article sent to alumni a few years ago that 80% of applicants are academically qualified to attend. You are clearly in that group. However, I am guessing that you are not a recruited athlete nor URM. Being in the top 2% of your high school puts you in the top 72,000 students in the US if I did the math right. Stanford will accept about 2,000 for their freshman class next year.
Given that, my wild guess is that your chances are better than 5%, but probably not much better than 5%. If you are being recruited by Stanford for tennis then your chances will improve a lot, particularly given your strong academics.
I assume that you have already applied to Stanford. At this point you need to focus on schools where you are actually likely to get in. There are a lot of very good universities.
