I didn't make it to Northwestern on ED so I was wondering whether I could make it into a school ranked so closely. Be brutal please, all feedback appreciated!

Very, very good ranking in class, but the ACT score is pretty low. Your ECs are good...not great though. Any awards won you are going to list on the application?

You definitely have a shot, but you will need good recs and a good essay to improve your chances too.

I've been told that my Personal Statement is solid by various English teachers (though it didn't get me to Northwestern!). My AP English teacher is planning to use it as an example for students next year. My teachers aren't too passionate in writing their recs, but I'd say I have about 2 of value.

I have probably received all the awards that are given out by my school, really... an Exceptional Student Award for Modern Languages and an Alumni Award for Excellence in Social Studies.

As a bonus I worked as an Election Judge during the Illinois Primaries this year and then later as an Equipment Manager (polling station leader) during the National Elections... don't know if that helps at all!

Everything looks good except the ACT score (your score is still good, but it'd help if it was a couple points higher). Darn science section! The ACT is what is keeping this a high reach for you. As someone else stated, you definitely have a good shot, but it will be very tough.

Science, true. Doesn't seem like it'd be a realistic choice, considering it's such a reach and scholarships would go to the kids with ACT 30+. Thanks for the help! (Chance me for Macalester, anyone?)

I'm trying for Washington University as well! (Top choice, in fact.)
Ok, it looks like your ACT's are the main blemish on your record, they're not BAD by any means but they could be higher. What school are you looking to apply to? Some areas of Washington University seem to be harder to get into than others. We're similar in our statistics, but I'm applying to their Art school. Chance me as well if you wouldn't mind!

Bottom line for you is that Washington University is going to be a bit of a reach, but not a bad one. Don't lose hope! As for Grinnell, I know someone who goes there, and I think you'd be a pretty good fit. But hurry up, because apps are due soon!
