Chance Me Please!

Hey everyone,

I'm currently in the 11th grade and just got back my SAT scores and would like to think what you guys think about my admission to Rice.

I have a 4.62 weighted GPA, 4.0 unweighted
(My schedule is very rigorous academically)

On the SATs i got:

Critical Reading: 740
Math: 720
Writing: 730

Thanks for the input!

Your academics seem fine, but without any info on your extracurricular activities, service, teacher recs, how well you can sell yourself in your essays, etc. you only have about 1/4 of what’s required to get in. Having said that, college admissions are hard to gauge which is why I feel chance-me threads aren’t that useful. Is Rice your first choice out of curiosity? if so, apply ED and work really hard to show them WHO YOU ARE in the essay and NOT WHO YOU THINK THEY WANT YOU TO BE. So many people end up getting rejected for writing cliched garbage this way. I wish you luck!

Thanks for responding, I do plan on applying ED as of now, which is of course subject to change.

For extracurriculars, i spend my summers volunteering at a camp for children with special needs, and i am going on a medical mission to Jamaica this summer. Im in the school’s jazz band and orchestra for school plays.

My teacher letters of rec should be very good.

I have a really good plan for my essay and I honestly believe it will be very good.

Thanks again!

Sounds like you are on track then. Maybe get some leadership in something you love next year. I did a lot my senior year that I felt really contributed. Also, I am not sure whether Rice requires it, but you may need to take SAT IIs. Out of curiosity, what do you want to major in? Don’t forget that the Archi and Music programs have different systems than general admissions and are much harder to get into. I hope you get in! Sounds like you would fit right in. :)

Thanks again!

I have already taken one SAT II, i got a 720 on chemistry, and i plan on taking 2 more this year. I plan on studying pre-med, chemistry, or something similar.
