What UCs can I get into??
Privates and good public universities?
Thanks so much Gumbymom! I do realize Medicine is not a major, however I haven’t decided whether I want to major in Bio or Biochemistry (Going down the pre-med track is in fact my #1 option right now). Cost-wise, I think the majority of private universities should be okay because my parents are willing to help out + student loans. Please do let me know what privates I could fit into! Also, what do you think I could do to boost my chances to get admission into UCSD??
Does EDing or EAing help my chances for privates? how so??
Applications are in so there is really nothing you can do to boost your chances at any of the UC’s at this point. Just make sure you keep up your grades to maintain your provisional admission once you are accepted.
For Private Universities, you need to check if they offer Biomedical Engineering, since many do not. Also if you are interested in pursing a pre-med track, you want to pick a major that will be a good backup in case your plans for Medical school fall through.
You might want to look at Occidental, Chapman, Pepperdine, LMU and University of San Diego.
ED deadlines have passed for privates, there can be an advantage. EA not as much since you are not bound to attend the school but it does show interest.
What is your budget and you as a student can only take out a total of $27K for years in student loans. The balance would have to be paid by your parents.
The UC’s will cost around $30K/year as an in-state applicant. Most privates will be in the $50K+/year range, so with your loan of $5500 as a Freshman, you are looking at $45K+/year, your parents may have to pick up. This does not include any financial aid and/or merit aid you may be eligible. Did you run the Net Price calculators on the schools of interest?
