UVa is a high reach for you. Your SAT scores are low and nothing stands out in your ECs. There's no continuity/clear interest looking at your ECs and they're pretty run of the mill: NHS, volunteer, a sport. Sorry.

i mean..youre basically the same as me lol. We definitely are at a bit of a disadvantage, (being from nova and not flaunting 2400s) but if you have good essays/recs/midyear grades id say you have a shot. At least thats what im telling myself!

Anyway, best of luck!! I'm trying to get it into my head that I'm going to another school, but (this sounds so cheesy lol) i still dream about going to UVA every single day. Never lose hope!!

Being in the top 10% will definitely help. You must be from Fairfax county where grading is harsher than elsewhere. But you SAT's numbers are a bit low. Altghough Sat's are secondary to GPA and rank for admission at UVA, it's always better to have high numbers evrywhere. Good luck!

^ Oh I didn't know you're asking me personally, but you should post your stats in another thread so others can look at them.

I would say you're a match though, atleast a better chance than me..

@ guillaume, yea I attend like the third best school in Fairfax County, Lake Braddock. Yea I know my SAT's are low and my EC's aren't too great. I just hope what db123 said isn't completely true(high reach??)

Your CR and writing scores are pretty good, but they are on the low side for U-Va. I was hoping that you made up for them with honors classes at least. But it is what it is.

Yea.. Hopefully the engineering school will overlook that since English isn't terribly important in that field. I got a 9 on the essay on the ACT's though, does that show anything?

You're around the bottom quarter on the SAT for both math (670) and verbal (600) for the 2008 entering class to the engineering school. This places you in the zone at least, and I have it on pretty good authority that, even for NOVA kids, once you're in the zone the SATs truly don't mean that much (unless they're really high, where they can only help you) and that it all boils down to the rigor of the course selection, the grades, and the extras, more or less in that order. The rigor of your course selection is probably no better than average for NOVA applicants, and the lack of any honors classes in English isn't helpful (even for engineering), but the grades are strong. I'd have to say that your extras are on the low end, however.

All in all, I'd chance you at considerably lower than 50/50, but not so low that it wasn't even worth applying. You definitely have some chance, and nothing ventured nothing gained.

Is your GPA weighted? Top 10% will really help, the SAT's will hurt but not kill. Hopefully your recs and essays will fill in the gaps. Take a look at Naviance on your Blackboard. That will give you a good sense of where you stand.
