chance me please!

hello :)
i took the ssat today and it was a failure...sigh
i'm applying late for four schools and i just wanted to know if i have the chance.
im applying to governor's academy, loomis chaffee, nmh, and cushing academy.

so basically, my application essay was pretty good,
teacher recommendations are not bad, its aright,
school grades are an average of 94~95% ish,
i incldued information on the sports and music i played during middle school,
i sent them my art portfolio,
haven't done the interviw yet but will be doing so very soon,
but my SSAT scores are REALLY low-
im not exaggerating but im expecting a grade like...
reading 70ish
math 70ish
verbal 20 ish.

so..please tell me if you guys think i'll hve the chance to get in!
quick facts
- im a sophomore applying for junior year this fall
- im applying late

thanksssss :)

Sadly, I think your chances are extremely slim. Not only are you applying for junior year, but your applying late WITH horrible SSAT scores :frowning: Except, most of the schools your applying to (except Loomis I believe) have average SSAT scores around that range (in the 60s). I’m sorry to tell you, but I don’t think you have a chance. Do you have some sort of hook? That might help…

hey josh, be more positive all right?
Anyway, how do you know you got a low score if you took the SSAT today? Who knows, it might be a surprise! Do you need FA, because that might be a big factor. I think you have a shot at cushing and governors, and maybe NMH, but probably not Loomis. Represent yourself at well the interviews, show some passion and good luck!

oh because when i took the practice tests…those were my scores and the test was even harder than the ractice tests:( we’ll i’ll hope for the best!
i thought governor’s academy was a pretty hard school…no?
oh btw, no i dont need financial aid :)

thank you both of you!

Governors is hard, but the answer is “it depends.”. They do have ESL programs for foreign students if that applies in your case. I think reading being higher than verbal may work in your favor. But it will really depend on many other factors. A lot of full pay students have been turned down at Governors and many other schools.

We can’t really say until we see what your real scores are. Might as well try. If you get in, great. If you do not, then you are no worse off than you are right now.

Since your chances are pretty slim I would suggest waiting it out at your current school and doing a PG in 2 years. It is easiler to get in as a PG and you will have time to improve your test scores. It might not be what you want to hear, but its probably the reality. I would suggest (give your grades) pick 2 top schools and 2 middle of the road schools. Maybe Choate and Hotchkiss. then Tabor and Cushing.

Well, I think you have a chance to get in to nmh. I applied with those kind of ssat scores and grades. However, I applied for 10 th grade

please94, what about any hooks? Cause with a good hook, I think you might be able to increase your chances even more. And since your full pay, that would also increase your chances as well. And, who knows, maybe you ended up rocking the SSAT  Annnd, I know plenty of students who get into competitive boarding schools for junior year (I guess I could work as an example – I had a 64 percentile for the SSAT and got into NMH, St. Mark’s, and Putney for 11th grade; I was also waitlisted at Choate and Middlesex, which I think is pretty accomplishing :P). Anyways, good luck! I’d hurry up and complete the applications as soon as possible though. The sooner the better =]
