I'm a 17 year old who's probably going to apply RD or ED2 to GWU.
My Stats:
GPA unweighted: 3.67 (but that's an A-...?)
I will have taken 5 APs by the time I've graduated. so far I have a 5 on AP US History and a 4 on AP Environmental Science.
National Honor Society junior year
Algebra II award sophomore year
Art I award freshman year
Varsity Basketball Captain for 2 years.
Current SAT I Scores:
Math 620
Critical Reading 620
Writing 590
but i did just take them this past saturday and there's a good chance they went up
haven't taken the ACTs yet, but i will on the 23rd
worked for 2 years as a lifeguard/swim instructor
2 years on environmental education committee
1 year on chemistry club
1 year on day of silence committee (basically LGBT)
1 year on Mock Trial Committee
1 year on PRISM committee (People for a Racially Inclusive Society of Multiculturalism)

If I were you, I wouldn’t mention all of your activites that you’ve done for only 1 year because it looks uncommitted. Otherwise, I can suggest boost your SATs, but otherwise I think you have a good chance!

their SAT middle 50% if 1900-2090 for admitted. Probably lower for enrolled. Enrolled average is 1950 or 1960. Admitted average should be close to 2000. They made a big ado about their average SAT climbing up (with pride and glee), and I have the feeling that they would like it that way, meaning, SAT is something they take seriously and would like to see keep going up (by the way, contrary to all the politically correct denial that they rely on standardized scores heavily, most colleges DO care about the scores a lot, based on all available indicators).

Unless your SAT scores (current combined 1830) jumped significantly in the Oct test, this puts you way below bottom 25% marker. This makes RD a very iffiy proposition unless you have major hooks (URM, recruited athlete, coming from an unrepresented state, etc).

If I were you, I would shoot for ED II. that gives you much better odds. Better yet, if you are so sure about GWU, try ED I, as soon as the SAT scores comes out (Oct 28, I think).

EDs will boost your odds greatly. The fact that it’s only accept or reject for ED at GWU (no deferring to RD like in some other schools) means that they will give you a huge benefit of doubt when it comes to ED.

ECs? Fine. Varsity captain is the best on your list. I wouldn’t list all the stuff you only participated in for a year or two. Focus on what you were a leader in, or some unique talent or hobby or experience you’ve had.

Test scores? Ok. Are you retaking them? Have you taken the ACT?

AP classes? Decent number of them, but not a strong number of them.

All around, I’d say it’s pretty average. Focus on an amazing essay, test scores, and boosting your GPA (if there’s time).
