CHANCE ME: Reapplying

I’m a going to be a junior this coming school year, and will be applying to be in the senior class.
I applied to Choate and Andover and middle school, but didn’t get in. Now I just want to experience something unique for my last year of high school.

Here’s the breakdown
Male, Asian, 16

Grades - GPA unweighted- 4.00 weighted - 4.42 (sophomore year) - All A’s but mostly low A’s (90-94)

AP’s - Taken: AP World, AP Euro, AP Stat (expecting all 5’s maybe 4)
Junior Year: AP USH, AP Comp Sci, AP Calc AB, AP Lang, Ap Psych, AP Art History (Self Study), Latin III

SAT - Taking SAT in August expecting (1500-1600 range), Taking SAT math II this weekend (750-800)

Extracurricular - Debate - Vice President for junior year, Treasurer for sophomore year, Top state PF debater, will compete on national circuit) Beta Club, Student Council, Joining DECA next year, Toastmaster Speaking ( President of 2 clubs, VP Public relations 2 years prior, placed high in state competitions), Hiking Club, Politics Club (will likely become officer), Track JV, and Cross-Country JV, Internship at tech company.

Schools I’m looking at:
Andover (Why am I still dreaming lol)
Choate
Loomis-Chaffee
Milton

That’s everything I can think of.
Thank you guys!

Without a SAT or standardized test score for CC to use as a standard, it’s difficult to chance you. I’ll give you a few things to think about though.
First of all, applying to be in the senior class is really hard- I’m not even sure if they allow it. Even if you’ve managed to find a way to apply, it’ll be very difficult unless you have a very strong legacy or outstanding grades and ECs.

You seem to have good grades, so just try to keep them up- if not, make them better. Your ECAs also seem to be outstanding. If it weren’t for the timing of your application, you would’ve had a great chance- even with Andover. Choate and Milton are both very competitive schools too, so your essays have to be outstanding if you want to have a decent chance. Loomis is also great- in fact, all 4 schools you’ve listed are excellent schools that you’ll have to work hard to get in.

Work on getting a good score on your SAT, prepare for interviews, and make sure your essays are great too.

Good luck!

Your chances are very very slim. All schools, if they even accept senior applications (which many don’t) will wonder how you will benefit from a single year and how you will add to their school for a single year. Additionally, looking at longer term, you may shortchange yourself in the college admissions process by transferring now.

I’d suggest either applying as a repeat junior or staying where you are.

Completely agree with @skieurope - very few spots are available for incoming seniors, if any. Many schools will have PG programs but I would suggest either applying as a repeat junior or just remaining at the same school. Coming in as a senior honestly wont be great- you are immediately thrust into the college process while still adjusting to your new surroundings and you are at a disadvantage because all the other students have had a chance to adjust and know how things work. The schools you are applying to are already academically rigorous and coming in as a senior doesn’t just sound stressful, but could actually be detrimental to you. You would have to quickly acclimate to campus life and the workload while applying colleges. Why is it that you want to go for your senior year?

I just want to experience something different from the public schools. I think that the schools are really tailored to the way I learn.

@skieurope @cababe97 Will repeating junior year hurt my chances of getting into a good college? Also, will it stop me from participating in sports and other activities in my senior year, because I would have been in high school for 5 years?

No. Repeating a year, even if the kid starts in 9th grade, is very common in boarding schools.

No. Again, it’s not uncommon.
