Chance me? Rice rice baby!

I'm not really the most qualified candidate (probably bottom 25% of the applicants), but I'm passionate about Rice as Rice is probably my only serious out-of-state application at the moment (due to its highly prestigious applied science program). Though I'll be ready for that rejection letter :(

I did a series of volunteer work, particularly with teaching underrepresented minorities how to swim.
No job, sadly :(

Asian ethnicity. From Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Also did some various course work with the clean up and rebuilding of Moore, Oklahoma after the May 20th tornadoes.

I also understand that Rice doesn't have a male NCAA swim team so my chances won't get better with my athletics stats because I can't get recruited (but I don't plan on swimming in college due to my focus on academics/volunteering work in college).

No National Merits. No high ACT. Nothing really exceptional in extracurricular so yeah..

So think I can make it? Terrible stats I know but there could be a chance in everything right?? :P

also I do plan on taking more ACT tests to raise my score but rate my chances currently and then rate it if i do end up getting better score.

I think you have to take 2 SAT subject exams. Are you applying this fall? Time to get registered for those tests :-)

Spend some time preparing for those standardized tests. Yes, your score needs to be higher. SAT might be a better test for you. ACT and SAT are not the same.

You don’t stand out, but you are not at the bottom either :-). Try to get better scores, get greats recs, and write awesome essays.

What’s your unweighted GPA? That’s a major factor. The fact that you’re near the top of your high school is good, you have decent extracurriculars and your schedule is solid. I could see you getting in, but I don’t know how your essay, recommendations or interview are.

You could very well get in, it’s just a matter of putting forward AMAZING recommendation letters and essay. Good luck to you and I hope to see you around campus next fall!

@crazymomster - I’ve checked the Rice admission website and it said that either the ACT (w/ writing) or the SAT plus two subject test though I might be reading it wrong. I’ll try and see if I can get an SAT set up but sadly Oklahoma has a higher preference towards the ACT. =</p>

@JIBA17 - I’ve checked and unweighted I have 3.95 which isn’t perfect but shows I’ve made some decent grades overall.

thanks!

and it’s quite early in the year but i’ll update on my recommendations/essays/interviews
