Chance me? (Smith College)

I applied to Smith College ED I. It’s my top choice and I really love all aspects of the school! I got a 32 on the ACT with a 36 on the English section, and a 1390 on the SAT.

I’ve been playing viola for 10 years and am Vice President of the high school chamber orchestra (and submitted an arts portfolio for viola!). I’m also Vice President of biobuilder club, which is a synthetic biology club that I helped to start two years ago, and I throw on my track and field team. I only have two APs because last year I spent half of the year in the hospital and was only able to take 1 (AP bio - I got a 4), and this year I’m part of a rigorous pre-med program for high school seniors that involves spending the entire day at the hospital so I’m only at my school for one period! During that time I’m taking AP Stats and I’m not super into math but it’s really interesting! I was elected class president of the hospital program, and have taken all honors-level classes throughout my four years in high school, earning all A’s with the exception of a B+ in geometry freshman year. My current unweighted GPA is a 4.0 and my school doesn’t calculate weighted so I’m not sure about that. I want to double major in Spanish and biology and hopefully become an emergency doctor or PA!

I’ve visited Smith multiple times, including an overnight, which really confirmed that I would absolutely love to go there. I had an off-campus interview which went really well and have met with multiple alumni to hear about their experiences at Smith. I know it’s a pretty competitive school so I’m trying not to be too optimistic but I’d love to hear your opinions on what my chances are of getting in!

Thank you!

I also wanted to add that I wrote my test scores on here first which could be misleading - I don’t think numbers can tell much about a person, and are just a tiny part of a person’s admissions profile. They were just the easiest facts to jot down first when creating this post

It won’t be long now - good luck to you!

Smith’s ED admission rate was around 50% last year. I’d say you have a very good chance. (How can you have a UWGPA of 4.0 with a B+ in Geometry?)

Thank you! The B+ was from freshman year, so my current GPA in senior year is a 4.0. My school doesn’t calculate a single GPA from all four years, each is individual
