Rigor:
7 AP classes total,
AP Calc AB
AP Stat
AP Physics B
AP Physics C Mech
AP Microeconomics
AP Government
AP Computer Science

UGA scaled GPA : 3.67 (4.0 Scale + .5 for AP class)
SAT: ~1700-1800. Took mock tests and those were my scores. (Tested in one sitting)
Ethnicity: Asian

If I apply EA, I'll most definitely get deferred or denied. Should I take advantage of RD and go that route or apply EA?
Chance me please, thank you.

It never hurts to apply EA. They only deny the bottom 5-10%, accept the top 10-25% and defer the rest.
7 APs are the UGA incoming freshmen average which is good. You also took some pretty tough AP classes and they will definitely take that into consideration.

Your GPA is okay…below last year’s freshmen average of a 3.83 and it is definitely going to be even more competitive this year.
Mock tests don’t mean much since you can’t submit them. I would take real ones ASAP (the October one). The application is due October 15 for EA yet they still take October SAT scores. If you are a senior and applying this year, please take a standardized test (with writing) that you can actually submit.

I think you will probably get deferred EA and possibly accepted regular so long as you take the ACT/SAT and get your GPA a bit higher.

Very help, thank you.
I’ll definitely take the October SAT test and take it again in November just to stabilize the scores.
What do you think might happen if I get ~1750 on the SAT? Will it make my chances at UGA significantly lower?

All in all, the total SAT score doesn’t matter as much as the Math+Critical reading component. They only use the writing component for data purposes. As long as you can get M+CR over 1200, you should be fine.
If you get below 1200, I would say you would probably get deferred EA and possibly accepted RD.

I just got my October scores back and my M+CR was 1210. 670 being math and 540 being reading. W was 620. I’m thinking I’ll be deferred EA but what about regular?
Thanks,

1210 is UGA’s average M+CR combo so that’s not bad! There’s is, like you said, a chance of you still getting deferred but there is no shame in that. Admissions gets tougher every year. On the bright side, if you are deferred, you can show the admissions more about you through essays, teacher recs, and your after school activities.

UGA also admits a small portion of their RD applicants in February. It’s usually people who applied RD or were deferred but should have gotten in EA. That could be you, who knows.

Best of luck though. And if you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

Interesting comments on UGA stats. My daughter was deferred EA. We are OOS and her SAT scores were:

Math 650
CR 660

She has taken 5 APs and her GPA is 3.9 (I accidently put 3.75 in another thread here). I would’ve thought that a combined 1310 would’ve been enough to get her in EA. Perhaps it is the low # of APs? She is quite disappointed.

She should definitely fill out the rest of the regular application. I feel she will probably get in regular in March or the February wave of admissions. How many APs does her school offer? 5/10 APs offered looks really good while 5/25 offered may not. Also, the difficulty level of the APs taken (e.g. AP Psych vs AP Calc) may factor in.

@davidhopkins When you say her GPA is 3.9, are you calculating the UGA gpa? If not recalculate that with only core classes, no weight and add .5 per AP grade.

OK thanks (and to camover too). She is taking 2 of the APs that I mentioned now, so UGA would only have access to 3 AP scores. Her school only offers about 10 in total.
