<p>Because of the major you chose, your test scores and GPAs will totally be outshined by your impressive ECs. So I'm thinking in at all! Psssh... I wish I were as creative as you! :P</p>

<p>normally I'd have reservations about your test scores for a place like Brown, but those ECs are incredible! I have a feeling that Brown will just completely love all your creativity/well roundedness/globalness...</p>

<p>and since this is our board, screw Barnard (which has absolutely no way of rejecting you...) and come to Providence!</p>

I'd love to hear your feedback on this comment someone else left on another board:</p>

<p>"Well.....you have superb EC's. Your grades are good considering the tough courseload and rigor of your school. But your SAT score is not top drawer. Its on the bubble, frankly. Fordham's scores have been rising rapidly the past 3 or 4 years and its getting very very hard to get in. A 1200 SAT is not going to catch anyone's attention. Its not bad, but its not stellar either. Frankly, I think you need more match schools and safety schools, so you better get cracking. As for Barnard, Brown, RhodeIsland School, Georgetown, NYU, Wellesley, BC, Swarthmore, Vassar, UCLA and Berkeley, I think those are all reach schools for you to be honest. I think you have too many of them to be honest, though you never know what may happen. Fordham is a tough match school for you. Sarah Lawrence is like Fordham for you. Northeastern and U Buffalo will likely accept you. Its too late to retake the SAT.

<p>so, they're basically saying that my sat scores will get me rejected from everywhere. what do you think about this? The fact that I'm "worried" is an understatement.</p>

i can see where he/she is coming from and it is always wise to have a safety school. apply to a school you know you can get into for sure. choose a state school you like that has rolling admissions. it's not that hard to find schools like this but try to pick one you wouldn't mind attending.</p>

<p>that being said, i still think that your ECs will help out big time and it's not like you're applying as an engineering major where test scores would be more important/relevant. i think that for a major like entrepreneurial studies and design experience and passion are more important and test scores can't reflect these things.</p>

<p>I don't do chances. You've got a great list of activities, and a lot will depend on how well you presented it. What concerns me more than your SAT scores is your GPA and rank. Sarah Lawrence doesn't consider SATs, and Barnard has been known to overlook low SATs. But all colleges say the first thing they look at is your transcript, and a 3.32 uw, rank in the top 30%, is low. In other words, it's one thing to be a poor tester, but another to be both a poor tester and have lowish grades. Of course, I know nothing about your HS, and a lot will rest on what your guidance counselor has to say.</p>

<p>You've plastered a chances question throughout CC, but I suggest you put yet another question up on the Parents Forum. I wouldn't label it a "chances" thread, but instead ask for advice on your list. The parents on CC offer great advice, especially when it comes to having a balanced list. I'm curious to see what the responses will be.</p>

<p>Your worldly ECs and recs are awesome enough to make them overlook your scores. The newspaper articles might be going a little overboard, though.</p>

<p>With a 1200/1600 SAT I score and a 3.3 GPA, you do not have good odds of getting into Brown, Georgetown, Wellesley, Boston College, UCLA or Berkeley. In fact, as a non-California resident, I do not think that you have any realistic chance at UCLA or Berkeley. I found your lengthy post to be a bit irritating and without substance in the presentation. Your post gives the impression that you did a lot of one time activities to impress colleges. Oddly, your lengthy list of ECs does not distinguish you in a manner consistent with a driven, passionate person with discernable goals. Even your list of colleges is so eclectic that it is suggestive of a person without direction or true passion. Assuming that you do not need financial aid, you should be admitted to RISD, NYU, Sarah Lawrence, Northeastern, U. at Buffalo (don't know about honors) & Fordham. Very little chance at Swarthmore, unlikely at Barnard and Vassar as well. I do, however, hope that you prove my assessment to be incorrect. After rereading your post, I wonder if the comment that you are a "Renaissance Girl" will help or harm you as it doesn't appear that you are an expert in anything as much as a jack of all trades. Impression is that you are from a wealthy and privileged family that paid for a lot of expensive travel and hobbies.</p>

<p>You may want to consider Skidmore College and Boston University as other options for college that each match at least two of your interests. Babson for business. George Washington University (GWU) may be another option of interest to you. Swarthmore, Berkeley, Vassar and Wellesley just do not seem to match your posted profile, in my opinion, as these schools are intellectual in nature and you appear to be more practical. Your best match is RISD, and it is a great school with a lot of social opportunities at Brown.</p>

<p>I have seen this application a thousand times from friends and other CCer's. Just because you go to different countries and do all of these events does not mean that you are determined to succeed in college. You have to get rid of the I visited 35 countries part, it sounds like you are spoiled. Just say I am a well seasoned traveler, or something along that nature. Reading the application it seems wishy washy. Pick out one thing from your app and really point it out. I agree with previous post that the SAT and GPA are not up to par with other applicants. Extracurriculars are the last things colleges look at GPA is the first.</p>

<p>icy9ff8- Not from a privileged family.. my parents jobs send them on assignment and, since I was a child, I've accompanied them. You seem to offer a lot of constructive advice, would you like me to pm you my college essay? I would just like to know if I conveyed myself correctly.. I think I did but I'm not 100% positive. and yess I love risd. Do you think that they would highly consider my SAT score and my gpa? I can't find anywhere how much they would.</p>

<p>freedomfighterxy- you didn't read my essays.. if you read them than you wouldn't think I'm unfocused or "wishy-washy." I'm not spoiled, I've would hard for what I have.</p>

<p>So you survived cancer at 12, founded a nonprofit organization at 10, presented an abstract at an international psychiatry conference (for professionals), founded a fashion company, and shot the pilot for a television show pitched in LA before 18?</p>

<p>i know this is late but a poster in early jan said it was too late to take sat's and it wasn't. brown and several other schools will look at jan scores. you sound like you would add a lot to any college community</p>

<p>I just returned home from my Brown interview and it went really well!! It was perfect. It's disappointing to know that they don't really actually count for much :/ There were 4 questions that she had to answer about the applicant and she typed them during our session. She said she was so excited about me!! and the dual degree program etc! She said that the recommendation she wrote was so outstanding that it just might get me in. It said stuff like of all the students I've interviewed, _____ is an extraordinary candidate/She will add so much to the brown community as well as the providence community/I could not recommend her more. She said if she had a big say in the admissions, she'd call them and say "you have got to accept this kid." She said she has never met anyone like me nor is this enthusiastic about many people and hopes more than anything that I am accepted. </p>

<p>..sorry I kind of went on a rant I'm just so excited about it!! But, she didn't see my transcript. Although, she did ask how my SATs were and I said unfortunatly they are no where near the usual 780's and 790's applying. and then she asked if they were in the 600's and I said yes.. even though I know my 560 is NOT in the 600's. I was really worried about that. And then she said that Brown knows a persons success at college is not from one number.. especially at Brown with the open-curriculum and all. And that Brown knows that already most of the poeple applying CAN attend the school and can succeed, however Brown is unique in that they are specifically looking for that applicant with the certain "flair" and extraordinary uniqueness. she said i have just that! </p>

<p>The past few weeks I've been super worried about being accepted at my top choice schools, esp. Brown cause it's perfect for me, but this afternoon took a little stress of my shoulders and reminded me that there still is hope somewhere out there :) hopefully.. still worried though.. for obvious reasons :/</p>
