It's nearing the application process for seniors and I wanted to see if I could be chanced.

FYI: I'm not a typical CollegeConfidential member as the majority of the board here is a 2200+ , 4.5 GPA, and other crazy stats being. I'm just your average student who wants to go to a good college. :)

Colleges:
UCB
UCSD
UCLA
UCD
UCI
Northwestern
University of Washington
Stanford (Never hurts trying. That's my belief. :) )
SJSU

Stats:
UW GPA: 3.81 (One B is being disputed, but unlikely)
W GPA: 4.16?
AP Scores: (Not sure if they matter) WH - 2 USH - 3 CALC AB - 5
SAT: 1790 (Studying really hard right now and taking in October; should increase to 1900 + I assume)
SAT II: MATH IIC - 740 CHEM - 680

College Classes:
Philosophy - A

Trig 40 & 42 - B, B (I didn't try really hard. regret this :( )

10 units of a foreign language at a State University in CA - A-, A - which is a 3.7 on their scale.

Pass/No Pass Class in Asian American Studies ( I passed, but probably won't post it, ahaha).

E.C.:
1.)Member of CSF
2.) Member of Key Club
3.) Co-Founder Robotics
4.) President - Investment Club
5.) Volunteered at a prestige hospital at the vascular clinic
6.) Internship held for the city - did grassroot work with the community; was very involved with hands on experience in the community. Learned a lot from the experience.
7.) Part of a program that promotes civic engagement

College Essays: They will be REALLY good. They will be personal and about my experiences in various places. I have a mentor and Stanford Graduate who is the manager of the program I am a part of and who knows me very well writing my Letter of R.

(Hint) * There was an upward trend from my sophomore year to junior year* It's apparent in my eyes.

UCB – Reach
UCSD – Low Reach (if you get that 1900 you’re in)
UCLA – Reach
UCD – Match (raise SAT to 1850)
UCI – Match (same as above)
Northwestern – Reach
University of Washington – STL? Reach
Stanford – Free app donation

Thank you. An ego-booster once in a while from College Confident. is amazing. Usually the people here are all going for Ivies and are amazing, but forget the “others.” :P

Those SAT scores hurt you ALOT. If you want some of these schools, go for a 2000+, especially with the UC budget crisis.

UCB – Reach
UCSD – Reach (SAT scores needs to be higher, they are on a point scale)
UCLA – Reach
UCD – Match
UCI – Match
Northwestern – Reach
Stanford – No offense but waste of money.
SJSU- Extreme Safety. 100%

I am sorry for being harsh on some of these. I gave you a honest opinion. Cal and UCLA can be done with higher scores and good essays. =)

to “the legend”
not trying to start anything here I promise… just here’s how I see it:

test scores don’t say crap about how smart a person is, not at all. I know this girl who is literally a genius, editor in chief of a nationally recognized high school paper, on the varsity girl’s tennis team, in a national charity league, attends a highly rigorous and competitive school, has never gotten a single B in any class except one, and she scored in the 1800’s on her SAT. So, with your logic, does that say that her test scores are going to “REALLY hurt her” in the admissions process? I don’t see how anyone without a 2000+ on their SAT could get into a good school then if schools place that much emphasis.
Cal and LA can be done with the test scores you have now… it’s a holistic view process that they use which means that not EVERY single aspect of a college application has to be absolutely perfect… but I mean it never hurts to try to get them up, but yeah.
I’d say you have a good chance at getting into all of those UC’s…I mean maybe I sound too much like an optimist, but really, your gpa is stellar and you have a lot going for you!

Honestly? Yes, of course it’s going to hurt her. Just look at the percentage of kids at UC Berkeley and UCLA who were admitted with scores under 1800 – it’s extremely low.

Yeah I love the optimism! I mean it really matters about your essays and your personality. I know someone, not personally, who was admitted to Harvard because she had an AMAZING life story. My story won’t be like hers, but with a good essay chances do go up.

@karen: Yes, the UCs supposedly look “at the whole person” but let’s be honest. They are just swamped by applications every year and don’t spend a lot of time compared to smaller/private schools. Just look at scattergrams of acceptances at UCs. Very few surprises, even for the top three. Compare that to say, Claremont McKenna.

That said, here are my actual chances/recommendations.

Super reach: Stanford, NW. I would only choose one to apply to (maybe early).

Reach: Cal, LA

High match: SD (admission keeps getting harder at the UCs. Last year was just brutal…)

Match: UCI, UCD. You should consider applying to the other UCs.

Safety: SJSU.

If you get a higher SAT score, that would move UCI/UCD into a low match/high safety area and probably make SD a match. Wouldn’t do anything to your super reaches, would prob make Cal and LA a bit more likely.

School – With 1790/1900
UCB – High Reach/Reach
UCSD – Reach/Low Reach
UCLA – High Reach/Reach
UCD – Very Low Reach/Match
UCI – Match/Match
Northwestern – Reach
University of Washington – Not familiar enough to say
Stanford – Very High Reach

You almost certainly will not get into Northwestern, Stanford, Berkeley, and UCLA. Your hard stats are simply too weak and none of your ECs are strong enough to make up for that. You’ll be very competitive for UCD and UCSD, and my bet is that you’ll get into at least one, but probably both. You’ll almost certainly get into UCI.

I’d say all of the UCs are a reach this year, just so you don’t underestimate yourself and take it easy on their apps. Remember, they underwent heavy budget cuts, which only makes admission all the tougher. As for applying to colleges like Stanford, good luck. Thanks for chancing me

Sorry there was a typo. When I said “Usually the people here are all going for Ivies and are amazing, but forget the “others.” :P” I meant usually the people here all going for ivies and are amazing, but forget about the “others.”

dont let the belief that ur sats are low get in the way that your not going to one of those UCs. my friend had the same stats as you but a lower sat score, and got into all of the UCs except LA. i would raise your sat, but ur still a strong candidate for all these schools. GL!!

I actually took it once without prep or even opening the book. When I got to the real test, I was confused by the whole “remove the underline and take away the period” thing, so I think my english score and everything suffered. i got a 26 (22 E, 21 R, 30 M, 29 S). I am practicing for the SAT and getting like 1900, 1950, 1960, 2000,2020.
