Chance Me? (UCSD, UCLA, UCI, other UC's, University of Washington, Syracuse)

Do you guys mind chancing me for the UC’s, like UCLA, UCSD, UCD, and UCI, as well as U of Washington? I am most interested in UCLA and UCSD since I have heard good things about their Global Studies/International Studies programs. My parents prefer that I stay in-state, so I’m mostly looking at the UC’s. Still, U of Washington and Syracuse have definitely caught my eye due to their programs as well.

SAT I (breakdown): 2170 (770 CR, 670 M, 730 W)
SAT II: planning on taking
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.83
UC GPA: 4.25
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 23/606
AP (place score in parenthesis): (5) Calculus AB, (5) APUSH, (4) AP Lang/Comp, (4) Euro
Senior Year Course Load: AP Calc BC, AP Lit, AP Psych, AP US Govt/Econ, Publications/Yearbook
ECs: Nothing extraordinary; miscellaneous volunteer work through clubs

  • CSF (10-12): Treasurer (12)
  • Key Club (9-11): Treasurer (12) - helped start a Builders Club @ local middle school to encourage volunteering for young students
  • Yearbook (11-12)
  • Model UN (12)
Intended Major: Global Studies/International Studies >> My interest in this subject/area is rather new (I only decided on it through extensive researching on majors over the summer and found the major appealing because I’ve always been a history/social science person), so I don’t have many ec’s that are geared toward it.

UCLA -low reach
UCSD - high match
(Have 2 subject tests with scores of 750+ , one of them to be math II, then your chances improves!)

@uclaparent9 I will be taking subject tests real soon. Thank you!

Are you taking a foreign language?

@JustOneDad I have taken Spanish for 4 years, but since my schedule conflicted, I decided not to take AP Spanish.

You will be good for the non Cali schools.

@boolaHI How about the UC’s? I most likely will end up staying in-state.

UCLA: Low Reach
UCSD: High Match
UCI/UCD: Match

Good Luck.

@Gumbymom I figured it would be around that. UCLA is definitely a reach, so I’m aiming for UCSD. Thank you!

I think you have a fair shot at UCLA with that 4.25 UC GPA and 2170 SAT. For reference, the SAT scores (25/75 percentiles) in the latest (2014) Admitted Student Profile are:

Applicants: 1,640-2,060
Admits: 1,940-2,240
Enrolled: 1,790-2,150

Good luck!
