Unweighted GPA: 3.4
Weighted GPA: 5.3 (my school has a weird scale there’s no cap)
UF GPA (If you calculated it): around 4.0
SAT: 1320
ACT: 28
State Of Residence: Florida
Male / Female: Male
Summer or Fall: Fall
Class rank: 57/498 (Top 12%)
AP’s: AP Environmental Science, AP World History, AP Lang, AP Chem., AP Psych, AP US History, AP Lit., AP Bio., AP Micro./Macro, and AP Stat (Last 4 are from senior year)
If this matters: The 6 AP exams I’ve taken so far I’ve passed except for chem(2)
EC: Been in marching band for 4 years playing baritone and it takes up the majority of my time in the fall (30-40 hours a week) and I’m the section leader this year, did jazz band, full orchestra (a after school ensemble with strings and winds), and the top concert band for the past two years and it takes place mostly in the spring (not as much as marching band 10-15 hours). We’ve always gotten superiors in all 3 ensembles and we performed at Carnegie Hall last year. I’ve been in the club best buddies for all four years and I’m an officer this year. I didn’t do any clubs other than that until this year (a service club, beta, and nhs).
Volunteering- I volunteered at a summer camp for Shriner’s hospital patients, helped at various band events and helped at best buddies fundraisers and events.
I know my GPA is low but I hope my dedication to band (which I really want to do at UF) and my test scores help my chances.
The GPA will hold you back a bit, but on the other hand they like to see you challenge yourself in your coursework, which you’re definitely doing. You are definitely in the ballpark for strong consideration because your scores are good enough. I think your work with the band will put you over the top. (That Carnegie Hall thing – REALLY cool!) Hopefully you made your essay stand out and included the impressive band work in it. Your extracurriculars are deep rather than spread out and shallow, and honestly I think they like to see that.
I’m betting you get in.
Good luck!

To which other schools did you apply ?
Sorry to read that UF isn’t in play, but everything happens for a reason.
What do you want to study ?
Sorry to hear that, Cinnamon. I believe this year was EVEN MORE competitive than previous years, which is just crazy. I saw people with scores 100 points higher than yours not getting in. It’s just nuts. I’m sure you will have other great options though, you are clearly a strong student!
I applied and got into FSU, UCF, USF, stetson, and UNF. I want to study chemical or environmental engineering.
My nephew had a 1450 SAT & a 31 ACT and was unsuccessful.
5.3 and you were number 57, what the heck does number 1 have???
